This happens all the time and I find it so unhelpful. It looks like tomorrow will be rainy. 60% and a rain symbol. Except when I look at the precipitation details, there’s light rain at 6am. Does this annoy anyone else, or just me?

Screenshot from the iOS weather app showing rain and 60% on Saturday. A screenshot of the weather app on iOS showing there will be a 60% chance of light rain at 6am.

"the menswear guy isn't fair and balanced." do you even hear yourself? "fork lady is eroding public confidence." "ladder baby is undermining the credibility of the field." "lemon raccoon is acting without transparency or accountability." that's what you sound like.

This whole farce with the “Your Party” membership email has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I like Sultana but the email, which used a similar but different URL to the official “Your Party” website for memberships, seems borderline phishing. leftfootforward.org/2025/09/brea...

Breaking: Jeremy Corbyn says Your Party membership email was ‘unauthorised’

Sultana said 20,000 people had joined Your Party as members, but Corbyn says the membership email should be ignored as it was unauthorised

The last few days I've been trying to get my head around #jj-vcs. I feel like I don't understand some fundamental things. Like, after I do a merge of a PR, I do "jj git fetch", and then on an existing revision I do "jj rebase -d main", and get "Error: Commit d0421057deaf is immutable" ...

I remember reading a fable/anecdote years ago about how when an engineer goes to a conference they say “that was a waste of time, I only learned one or two new things” whereas when a salesperson goes to a conference they say “that was great, I learned one or two new things”

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. If you think artists are just "naturally talented", you're deeply wrong. The only difference between you and us is that we kept trying when it didn't come out like we hoped. You can always make art yourself. There's no bad time to start, you can start now.

I'm not using nushell 100% of the time, but it's really nice dipping into it to write things in a more readable way, e.g. finding out which directories take up the most space: ~> du ./* | select path physical | sort-by physical | reverse #nushell

A screenshot of a terminal showing a query in nushell to list directories by size, and the result of that query, a table showing all of the results.

Lizi’s redesigned their packaging and I hate it. Help me understand. Why do I like the packaging on the left and hate the packaging on the right?

Two packets of Lizi’s granola. The left is the old packaging and the right is the new packaging.

Cinderella III: A Twist In Time, is a surprisingly good film. The animation is good. The story is alright. I like it. I should start a Letterboxd account for insight like this.

Every year on April 1st, we at the Ishtar Collective have tried to do something fun. This year I had very big plans, but for a number of reasons, many of them of my own making, they never came to fruition. I’m very proud of the thing we built, and maybe one day I’ll share it, but not today.

A follow up on this. On Tuesday we replaced Meilisearch Cloud with a $6 DigitalOcean droplet running Meilisearch set up by @wafer.baby. I wanted to start with the smallest instance and scale up based on performance. So far we’ve not had to scale up! $300/month → $6/month Pretty good saving! 😄

The Ishtar Collective’s search bill was $300 this month. That’s like 6 times the cost of all of the other services. 🤯 I think we’ll be moving away from @meilisearch.com’s hosted offering very soon. @wafer.baby is looking at running it ourselves on DigitalOcean.

I started looking for Instagram alternatives and installed Pixelfed, but the first thing you need to do is pick a server. I feel like any app experience where you need to pick a server is going to turn off a lot of people. Myself included and I’m a massive nerd.
