Beatrice Lu, Writer of Emotional Violence™

@beegotten.bsky.social

Writer of DRACUNCULI: I SHALL SEAR THY FATE in @nadirmagazine.bsky.social Reader of Fantasy, New Weird, and (Mediocre) Sci-fi Fiction Ruiner of Scores of Characters Bee | 30 | They/Them | Chinese-Canadian

Robin Hobb is my favorite fantasy author, top three at least (she's not fucking third), and she made sure to swing for brutal emotional swings, complex interpersonality, and heavy melancholy almost every step of the way, and she was doing that longer than most current writers are alive now.

Le Guin and Butler and Hobb and Bear and Pierce did not die so we could pretend saccharine happily ever after baby food is what women need

NADIR agrees and I do believe I've written a piece worth clicking on and reading, full of introspection and dragons, complete with author's notes to complement it. Hope you check it out, trust this scheming eunuch face. It belongs in a decadent court, but it has poetry and thought and amusement.

@beegotten.bsky.social created something incredibly special for the first issue of NADIR. A contemplative and vicious tale about human brutality, forgiveness, and living on in memory. Read it and six other wonderfully weird tales in our inaugral issue. Available @ NADIRMagazine.com

very bad news. the IOF pushed the yellow line past Abod's house. now, his family lives in official "shoot on sight" territory. he's telling me not to worry, but i'm really, really scared. as always, anything you can give helps my best friend & his family survive. chuffed.org/project/119736

screencapped instagram conversation with Abod. reads as follows:
Abod: Yes, I am within the yellow line. There are cubes that extend beyond our house, and there are cubes that run parallel to the house as well. I hope we don't leave home for good unless it's outside Gaza.
me: oh, god, Abod, i'm so worried for you. i trust that you will keep your family safe. how much food do you have in the house? can you stay inside for a few days?continued conversation, which reads as follows:
Abod: Not everything. We need to bring water every two days. We also get bread every two days from the bakery. But we have rice. The vegetables won't keep well becauseof the heat, and there's no working refrigerator since there's no electricity. I'll only be able to keep them for a day or two befre they spoil. But the situation is safe and good so far. There's no danger, don't worry, my love."

my big bro Abod is constantly exhausted from the strain of laboring and raising kids under genocide. your donations have paid for life saving medical care, his baby daughters' needs, and the food on their table. pls share. help my best friend survive. every $ counts ❤️ chuffed.org/project/help...

So. I hate to do this. We were pulled over on the way back, it turns out we forgot to get the MOT after that lady hit us with her car. We are now without the car until we can get it sorted (it'll likely fail, too) and poor, so we could do with the money for the MOT and additional disability costs.

Everyone say happy birthday to my spouse, who is 54 today! In my not-so-humble and very correct opinion, he's still looking wonderful.

Just in the last hour, in violation of the Geneva Convention, Israel has dropped white phosphorous gas shells on towns adjacent to their bridgehead, issued displacement threats to civilians immediately to the north, and also separately killed 2 children in an airstrike on Sidon.

Looks like they may have done it. Forget the Strait of Hormuz. Israel will happily take a weakened Iran and GCC, but their primary goal in this war is to occupy Lebanon.

My name's on the cover, me alongside other talented writers. The work's written, the ink's dried, now all that's left is waiting in anticipation for the stories themselves. I hope you all enjoy these pieces that were too outlier for other magazines, only to find a fit and home with this one. 📚 👏 📖

Excited to show off the cover for the inaugural issue of NADIR magazine! I can't wait for the end of this month and people to get a chance to read seven amazing stories by this incredibly talented group.

Cover for NADIR Issue #1
Image is Tomb of a Suicide by Wilhelm Kotarbiński. In a dying field, beneath a twilight sky, a soul escapes from a white flower that is spouting from a bleeding stone.
