For me, "being a monster in the human world" is one of the most interesting themes in urban fantasy. After all, depending on species, each supernatural being experiences this phenomenon differently: they hide different traits, struggle with different psychological backgrounds and coping strategies.
Jev breaks down completely, losing control over their body, which begins to shift and change uncontrollably. Devin is the only one who knows who Jev really is and what they’re struggling with. He’s incapable of returning Jev’s feelings, he still tries to stay by their side and support them.
Alone in her room, Talia goes over her encounter with Devin again. She can’t even imagine how anyone could like her, and the memory of Devin’s kindness is starting to make her feel uncomfortable. So she convinces herself that it’s best to end whatever might be starting between them...
Devin is used to draining others’ lives to stay alive. Working as an Eliminator makes the hunt before feeding easier—he handles his targets with cold routine. That’s why meeting Talia catches him off guard: not only her resemblance, but his own intense emotions and confusion upset him even more…
After her first meeting with Devin, Talia’s mother tries to warn her – in her own way. Her words wound Talia deeply. Even so, deep down she also senses that something is wrong with Devin, but she tries to deny it and hide her feelings.
Talia is terrified of riding a motorcycle and swears she’ll never get on one again, Devin changes her mind with a few kind words and gestures. She feels like someone truly cares about her—but when she shares her joy with her mother, she brings up things about Devin that she doesn’t want to hear…
Devin has already experienced being buried alive once before — and it still haunts him.
To gain Talia's trust, Devin gives her his own helmet. Meanwhile, he smiles innocently, expertly hiding the raging emotions and murderous intentions inside him. And Talia has no idea who (or what) Devin really is—or that when he says, “I don’t die easily,” he means it quite literally…
Talia has no idea about the emotional change that has taken place in Devin, and she seizes every opportunity to spend more time with him — even agreeing to let him take her home, despite being very afraid of motorcycles. Perhaps not without reason… #webnovel #darkfiction
When Devin meets Talia, the realization that the girl resembles him—both in her reactions and certain physical traits—terrifies and horrifies him. If you are interested in reading my novel “Being a Monster” 🔞, check out my website or Patreon in bio (read for free - 🇬🇧 🇭🇺 )
When Devin shows up in front of Talia’s school and she sees his expensive-looking motorcycle, the thought crosses her mind that something might be off about this librarian...
In the past, I usually drew Jev as a man, even though they often take on a female form—particularly alongside Devin. As the Dragon of Transformation, no matter what shape they take, they can’t change the original colors (blue and white) of their dragon form. #characterart #watercolor #fantasy
Devin's past pains and the feeling of emptiness are a constant state he tries to fight against, but they keep coming back. Although Jev is by his side, their relationship is complicated, full of inhibitions, racial prejudices, and a complete lack of personal space… #webnovel
