What a way to end summer. Took 16 to Linkin Park (1st CD I ever bought), facilitated my first Continue launch week (went great!), escaped to Cape Cod with 13, and got the kids ready for school. Sometimes the best weeks are the busiest ones 🥰

Yesterday at Virtual Coffee, we talked about the impact of AI on mental models and the impact on edu, kids, healthcare, etc. Not for or against AI, but with the perspective of “it’s here, and it’s impacting society, so how do we make sure it does it in the best way possible.”

I’m moving into a new decade today. I’ve officially hit my 40s. The last decade has been both the best and worst of my life. It’s had the greatest highs, followed by the greatest lows, and the lowest lows, followed by the highest highs.

Big news, coming soon. Recently, I had a great interview experience w/ an amazing team and got an offer. But an unexpected opportunity came up with a company I’m really excited about. It was too good to pass up. I’m super grateful for the experience and excited for what’s ahead.

This week, I invested in my son's startup. He and his friends pitched the idea. I funded the supplies. Gave them seed money. Let them lead. 4 hours later, they brought in a 1100% return. Sometimes, the best investment isn't in the market. Sometimes, it's in a lemonade stand 😂

At the beginning of June, I started a new chapter. This summer, I'm taking care of my kids (helping my daughter get healthy post-accident), exploring AI tools I never had bandwidth for, working with some incredible teams, and giving myself permission to breathe💙

Monday I’m starting a new chapter in my career and life. The best part of it is that I have space to breathe, imagine, and create. I’m ready for this.

One of the simplest ways to build goodwill with someone is attention to detail. Spell their name right. Remember their kids' names. Ask about their dog. Find the detail that's meaningful to them.

Since OpenSauced shutdown, I've been exploring new ways to look at open source projects. I've really appreciated looking at collaboration metrics and their impacts. They tell the story of the human-side of open source. Here's more about that story: dub.sh/collab-cognee

Beyond Stars and Forks: Why Open Source Needs Better Collaboration Metrics

This post explores why open source needs better collaboration metrics and how tools like Collab.dev can reveal the human side of contribution, from PR responsiveness to community health.

Today I went to a new gym and did the KB version of the murph: - 1 mi run - 100 kb snatches - 200 kb clean and presses - 300 kb swings - 1 mi run I may not wake up tomorrow but I regret nothing ☠️

I finally finished the last post in my Reciprocity series. It took longer than expected bc I had a lot to say about building systems that encourage reciprocity and help to reduce burnout and bottlenecks. Let me know what you think. dub.sh/reciprocity-...

Breaking Bottlenecks: How Organizations Build Systems of Balanced Reciprocity

In this third post of my series on giving and taking, we explore how to design systems that prevent burnout, distribute contributions, and transform individu...

New week, new goals. What are you working on this week? I'm trying to: - Publish a blog post - Launch 6-week, personal wellness challenge - Create a summer schedule for the kids - Start working on my demo project - Reach: record a video and publish to my YT.

New week, new goals. What's everyone working on? I'm trying to: - Finish my blog post on reciprocity frameworks - Complete 6-week social media calendars for multiple orgs - Create a demo project for my portfolio - Apply to Squiggle Conf!

I'm working on a page on my site for my DevRel portfolio. Right now, it's just some markdown lists. I would love to have some inspiration. Who has a DevRel portfolio they're proud of?

New week, new goals. What are you working on this week? This is what I’m trying to do: - finish the last post in my blog series - get my DevRel portfolio MVP up on my site - Revise my blog post on AI open source licenses - 5 workouts, prioritize sleep, being present, get ☀️

Hot take: The best teams know when to collaborate and when to let people run with their strengths independently.

New week, new goals. What's everyone else up to? This week, I'm planning to: - Finish a blog post - Draft my DevRel portfolio for my site - Decide on a couple of small projects to use in my portfolio - Update my consulting page - Hit my fitness/health goals + 1 ice bath

It's wild to me that ppl still think it's more effective to track the minutes you work instead of the output. This is how you can tell the difference between an effective leader (counts delivered value) and one who just wants to check boxes (counts login hours).

I recently finished From Strength to Strength, and it hit at the right time. As I approach 40, as someone who’s navigated career changes, weathered layoffs and acquisitions, and grown through the uncertainty of a pandemic, this book helped me put words to something I’ve been feeling for a while:
