Queer disabled chronically ill nerd trapped in Texas

In today’s episode of The Ranch Move: The new (used) ranch truck broke down! MAGA aunt finally gtfo, & left a house FULL of stuff & trash for my kids & mom to deal with & she tried to have the electricity cut off in 100° heat! The piano movers said they’d be late, came early, & weren’t piano movers!

My last 24hrs: My “libertarian” brother is surprise showing up to help my kids & our 76yr old mom w/packing the ranch, stress ramped way up! On his way he casually drops that he has Covid. Family goes nuts trying to protect my parents & my immunocompromised ass. sleep Wake up to a call from Eldest

Sunday morning vibing w/my spouse, playing a chill video game together & we get a group text from my mom: “Stepdad & I need to talk to one or both of you privately, we can be there in an hour” Us to her: Okay! Us to each other: 😳🫪 5mins later Mom texts: It’s nothing bad! How’s your day going? 🤦

Everyone around me is running on a mix of tightly controlled anxiety, stress, grief, & frustration. My pre-long covid role was a source of balance & direction. Now I’m surrounded by partially finished projects, misplaced high value items, & ppl on the edge of spinning out. Why ppl think risking

Me: I know I seem mostly okay, but I’m not even partially okay & I’m not sure how to stop. I don’t get to see Eldest much &… Spouse: I’ve got you *closes bedroom door, sends “goodnight” text to the family group chat, turns down lights, sets up my side of the bed around me* I think I’ll keep him

I actually tried to do some of the things I normally have to guess about on the monthly FUNCAP27 check in on the #VisibleApp this month, & though I tried to be optimistic I still dropped .4 - there’s probably a lesson in that somewhere. #pwME #pwLC

US COVlD Update, PMC, July 27, 2026 ▪️10 hot spots (see Alt text) ▪️Persistent high/very high levels in TX ▪️FL, AK, HI, & the continental northwest picking up ▪️1 in 198 people estimated actively infectious nationally ▪️1.57 million estimated weekly infections & rising (1/2)

The US has 10 hot spots. There are major outbreaks across much of Texas (high/very high). Houston, denoted by the light blue county in the southeast (Harris) has 1-3-week reporting lags at most sites so may be worse than noted. Hardin county, two counties over to the east/northeast, continues to experience BA.1 Omicron-level transmission. The Texas surge is bleeding into estimates for western Louisiana.
There are 9 other outbreaks: southeast Alaska (Juneau, high), Hawai’i (Honolulu and Kauai, high), north central Oregon through the Washington coast (high), western Nevada (Carson City, high), the Utah-Idaho border region (very high), southwestern Colorado (high/very high), southern Florida (high/v high), Atlantic City, New Jersey (high), and Grafton County, New Hampshire (high). The outbreaks in the Bay Area and Guam declined since last week. Note that the CDC state-level map shows no state median in the high/very high range, which is atypical. Higher levels tend to be more widespread.

I grew up get-to-school-early-so-I-got-to-have-free/breakfast kinds of poor, my spouse & I did years of plate spinning to stretch SNAP & make rent - now that we aren’t desperately poor I’m continuously shocked at how much free/discounted stuff we get access to. Our society is fucking busted. 1/4

Today was supposed to be my first nothing to do or prep/rest for day in weeks. It did not work out that way. I feel like I’m teetering on the edge of a full body shutdown me/cfs crash, but somehow I keep managing to stave off any significant crash. I wish this felt more like skill than luck. 🤞

Woo, I’m gunna go get some 🍿 A plumber who’s worked on my mom’s rental properties (mostly rented to single moms for way under market*) pulled a sexism then doubled down. He accused a prepubescent girl & her postmenopausal mom of being “typical girls who flush tampons.” Dude is getting schooled!!

Our foyer is pretty big, 5ppl chatting by the door doesn’t feel crowded. It’s become the staging area for a growing pile of boxes from the ranch move that are waiting for me to feel up to going through them. We now have a tiny path to get through the foyer lined by the irl equivalent of loot boxes.

Spouse moved the portable A/C into our room, & I think I might survive. It’s was 88°F in here at 2pm. The only room w/a window unit is our tiny office where I can’t be flat. We’ve decided all 4 grown kids, the 3 huge dogs, & the cat can come camp in w/us until the A/C is fixed.

We have a nice window unit in our office, directly across the foyer from our room, but even w/a fan bridging the rooms it’s 81°F with 62% humidity in here. Having our central A/C go out was the very last thing my overtaxed ME/cfs laden body needed.

Y’all, I am having a day. It’s 95° & our A/C died. The soonest it can be looked at is Mon. I have a portable A/C, but it is NOT enough & me/cfs & long covid do not play nicely w/heat! I’m headed to a memorial/family gathering that’ll be partly outside & there’s drama 😳 I need a rock to climb under.

#neisVoid 🤦 Me: I have done focused rest for over 2 days, it sucked, but surely it’ll mean I’m mostly recovered from the movie on Wed & in better shape to go to the memorial today. My body: LoL, nope! PEM: *mic drop*

I have survived going to see The Odyssey. I used 6.8 pace points out of my overly generous budget of 5 on the Visible app. I had an amazing time, but, as we #pwME know, only PEM will tell how well it really went.
