G.A. Cohen's "Karl Marx's Theory of History: A Defence" is a book I've spent a lot of time with over the years.* But it's clearly been a long time since I went back to the very beginning of the book. 🧵

Saw a headline in my inbox right after I got up that started "Trump, Hegseth clash..." and my sleepy brain managed to misread it as "Trump, Megadeth clash..." and for a minute there I was actually pretty intrigued about what they could be fighting about.

Anyone hand-wringing about whether @abdulelsayed.bsky.social can win this fall should ask yourselves what you know that AIPAC doesn't. You think they would have spent so much on Stevens if they didn't think El-Sayed could beat Rogers? From their perspective Rogers would be even better than Stevens.

Mamdani Is Right. Netanyahu Belongs Behind Bars.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani charged Benjamin Nentayahu with genocide, said he is unwelcome in New York City, and called for his arrest. Two years ago, that would have been unimaginable. Going forward, it sho...

Matthew Whalan's new book "Jimmy: A Brief Death Penalty Story" comes out I think sometime next month, with an introduction by me on the death penalty more generally:

This picture of me, Michael Brooks, my then-wife Jennifer and his girlfriend Theodorah was taken seconds before I hugged him goodbye and Jenn and I left for the airport at the end of what I never would have guessed was the last weekend I got to spend with him. He's been gone six years today.

The book won't even be out yet for a couple more months, but already right-thinking people everywhere are feeling petrified by the chilling vision of my big-brained co-author:
