I will definitely be thinking about this post. Thank you Micaiah, as a fellow Aquarian, for encouraging a better way of handling uncomfortable personalities. www.patreon.com/MicaiahJohns...
Very nervous about tomorrow’s blog on Patreon so have some out of context quotes from it as a treat 💜
"Let's train you on genAI! Don't know what it is? Just use this AI app to ask about this training. (But also - we don't take any responsibility for this app.)" - Microsoft.
That feeling when you use a little bit of thought during a mandatory training's pre-test and thus get opted out of the training, despite having never used the tool for which you were assigned the training.
Nick Cave ≠ Nick Cave (the first is an artist; the second a singer) Erik Carter ≠ Erik Carter (the first is a photographer; the second is a graphic designer, and I learned later, genAI user)
I don’t really want the LEGO X-Files set. But getting that is the only way to get the Scully’s Lab set, which I DO want. Why, LEGO?
This is super niche, but it’d be really cool for video games to have a “I see you haven’t played in 8 years. Here are the basic mechanics and this is where you need to go next” feature. Oh, yes, I did just reinstall The Witness and Alien Isolation, why do you ask?
The five words that describe my vibe: - adjustable rate mortgage - first world problem - white-glove - overbeat - Help menu
hell yeah, born the same year as • cosplay • gender-fluid • speedrun • website(!!!) • "blue screen of death"
this week I learned that the singularity is when a human being fails to air gap hacking software (either accidentally due to incompetence or intentionally for marketing and media exploitation purposes)
Sarah is quite clear in her thread about the scourge of the persistent insistence on “rural”.
Also, as we all know, there are lots of rural areas that don't vote GOP. Coincidentally, they're all the rural areas that aren't majority-white. We do ourselves a real disservice pretending the "rural-urban divide" in politics is real. It ain't. Full stop.
I’m going to need the contact info of the person that decided that every single top for men had to be textured, especially the year I need new clothes. This photo is Abercrombie, but every store was full of this shit. (And don’t get me started on boxy coming back.)
After using the keycap samples that arrived, I'm pretty sure these are the Yuzu keycaps I'll be ordering. I've cut out all the extra cmd, etc., variants that I don't want to use, but left the fn variants and a number of blanks just in case.
Alan’s yellow striped swimmers have quite the cut in the back.
I got my Yuzu Keycaps sample set and am both glad I got as many variants as I did and upset I didn’t do more. Compared to the Nuphy Coast Keycaps, the Yuzu top is shorter, but stem is slightly taller, putting the keycaps at the same height. The Yuzu also has a bit more surface texture.
What was breaking anisota for me were my ad/content blockers. But only for the "post" and "explore forest" buttons and the menubar. So weird. I like the "take it slow" approach of the app. Not ready to commit fully to it, though, until I figure out why images/links are missing from posts.
I appreciate this explainer. It helps. And I still don’t get it.
What is the Atmosphere?

I’ve been having fun with Denim today, updating my playlist images. Denim has access to Unsplash, in addition to a number of templates. I’m particularly happy with the first ones here. apps.apple.com/app/id153225...
Did y'all read the PDF that generated those "genAI makes people not say 'I don't know'? You should. Especially about the experiment with forcing LLM answers on users. I knew I hated those unprompted "generated with AI; verify answers" boxes in apps for a reason. osf.io/preprints/ps...
I’ll say, just watch Loki s01 instead of Doomsday. Heck, maybe that’s what I’ll do: watch Loki s01, Thunderbolts, and X2. (Even though that’s longer, it’ll probably feel shorter than Doomsday. Plus no Thor.)
Tom Hiddleston says MCU fans should watch ‘Loki' before watching 'Avengers: Doomsday' “I would always say, if you haven’t watched it, go and do so. And, if you have watched it before Doomsday, go and watch it again" (via @techradar)
Dr Drang reminded me of charting sunrise/set times with/out daylight savings, and I decided to reformat using Excel, for Des Moines. Under the permanent DST, the sun would rise after 8am between mid November and late February, instead of never. No, thank you. leancrew.com/all-this/202...
A reprint of the Claude Cahun photograph (on the right) was part of the exhibition of work by Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore that I saw at CAM on Saturday, and I was so glad that I had recently seen this post to prepare me for their work. camstl.org/exhibitions/...
A thread of some favorites seen today at Contemporary Art Museum St Louis and Pulitzer Art Foundation:
I did not like the performance (speed and efficacy) of the javascript I added to prevent widows/orphans. So I did some more digging and updated the regex used. I think it's working better now. In case you want to see what's changed…
Preventing widows and orphans on Squarespace | Ben Millett
One of the disappointments of moving to Squarespace from WordPress was the lack of handling of widows and orphans in my text. I didn’t realize how much work this little bit of PHP code did for me. (R...

I really, really, really hate that it's taken me this long (over five years) to get fed up with Squarespace not handling widows. Especially when the fix is so simple. Thank you Alex for this JS. alexmansfield.com/javascript/p...
Latest updates to my genAI Statement: - officially declared it my genAI statement (see the link in the site footer) - reorganized/edited the intro and post script - better ordered the quotes / grouped quotes with headers - added more quotes - blockquote css tweaks benmillett.net/blog/in-defe...
There are some great statements in here, including some I already had on my page.
🦊 When I redesigned my website, I added a statement about how I use (or don’t use) “AI” on it. I then discovered a TON of similar statements, representing a whole spectrum of approaches and opinions. I learned a lot from them, so I thought I’d share a few faves. ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/folded...
Something I didn't anticipate when compiling quotes for "In defense of doing the work" was how much I enjoyed visiting everyone's sites and seeing how they were created (without Squarespace).
Whoops. The grocery store did have Field Day Featherweight Lime Lager, but I got curious how it stood up against all the other lime beers.
