Inspired by this piece from @tofupixel.bsky.social to write a little composition for KIRA art month
ill just put a little reverb on the master, as a treat
Haven't played a game just because I wanted to in such a while. Unfortunately I completely forget how to play this lol
as great as it is, no one ever talks about how rife the skyrim soundtrack is with audio errors and artifacts, i mean theres one in the very intro to the game!
i wrote another composition in 1 hour inspired by this piece from gaelya
i started combining some soulsborne themes with elder scrolls style orchestration youtu.be/qt8D9f-t2YU

I made a little experiment orchestrating elden Ring's shaman village theme using the textures and melodies of Morrowind. Heavily inspired by the infernoplus mod, check it out: youtu.be/su4NMlKNESQ?...

Hello lads, this is the second to last track on my ancient scrolls/es6 album and the one I'm most proud. It's very inspired by impressionism and designed for a big lore reveal youtu.be/XjfSYGOuSBY

music is not mystical or arcanistic, its an art that can be learned and dissected. jeremy soule was not a good man and while his music was great, it doesnt make him any more than his fellow man. too many people in the tes community treat him like an untouchable god
i wrote a piece of music about what happens when you interact with this woman of stone in about an hour
This is how pixel games are meant to look
the music that plays when nothing is happening is the most important music in your game. it's on for hours. it becomes the world itself
Having a strong regional identity for different regions and peoples of a game, probably even more than having it match the biome. If the music for various cities and places could be swapped without anyone noticing, maybe it should be more distinctive, weird or some defining factor
i just secured an internship with the elder scrolls series' original composer :)
its out now! www.youtube.com/watch?v=8meB... open.spotify.com/album/6cNqLw... bentheduelist.bandcamp.com/album/ancien...

worldbuilding is so overrated. if a story has great characters and character arcs, i'll take the shittiest worldbuilding you can give me. idgaf about lore if it doesn't make me care about your characters
i love worldbuilding and this is so real. way too much happening in the background and an emotionally unmoving story will kill a story no matter how realistically detailed the planet is, or how scientifically systematic the magic system is

more fantasy music should borrow from jazz, not for complexity, nor in a surface-level way, but because theres colors in jazz and the blues that just havent been explored yet by rpgs
with the advent of open world games, there was a reversal where the world was huge, but everything in it is so literal it doesnt strike the imagination as much
one of the miracles of old games is how little they told you and how big that became in your mind a few notes of music, some pixels of a foggy coastline, and your imagination was doing most of the worldbuilding
