Renters in NSW are already experiencing indoor temperatures that climb above 40°C, keep them awake at night, and drain their finances when they can only be fought with the energy-inefficient cooling devices that so many renters are stuck with.

Our deputy CEO Bernie spoke to 9News about the unsustainable living situations forced upon the NSW renters we followed in our new report, Boiling Point. We recorded temperatures in some homes that were above 40°C.

From December 2025 to March 2026, we tracked the temperatures inside 50 NSW renters' homes. We found that their homes not only didn't protect them from the extremes of the summer heat, but that their homes are, in fact, hotter inside than out. They are worse than nothing. They are ovens.

It's the last sitting day of Parliament, so we wanted to squeeze in one last opportunity to make sure the government knows we need to see action on the outrageous landlord tax concessions that have eaten away at our housing system.
