Got a good potato dish I can only cook in France—a Robuchon recipe requiring rattes, little burlap-colored fingerlings. Nice nutty flavor, the spuds. Cook up fluffy and smooth. An American farmer w…

The art is by Sheila Squillante (sheilasquillante.com), and it’s perfect. I’m humbled. The only other time a magazine has commissioned original art to accompany my work was for "Rainbow Dogs," the companion to this piece. I’ve been trying to reunite the stories for 18 years. Came close this time.
Congrats to Jamy Bond (www.jamybond.com) and fellow finalist Aimee LaBrie (aimeelabrie.wixsite.com/website).

When I sent Matt DiGangi this piece in 2007, he said it wasn't quite a Thieves Jargon story (it wasn't), but he was a sucker for a pixie cut. Thanks, Matt. And thanks to @bulbculture.bsky.social for the chance to share my first short story again. www.bulbculturecollective.com/read/the-hoo...

I never met Tom, but I owe him many drinks for taking that gorgeous joke over the finish line
Once the screenshot was brought to our attention, we decided to make it a running gag. When GameNOW moved from Chicago to SF and had a near-complete turnover of its staff (I was one of two editors who made the move), the new EIC (Tom Byron) thought the gag was hilarious and further encouraged it.
"We are Vikings. Tonight we raid. We feast and drink and pillage, of course. Descend upon this city like a scourge of locusts. Regard our helms. Yes, we recognize the historical inaccuracy of the horns." - Big Hark mrbullbull.com/newbull/fict...
It's been a minute since I've read for journals, but I like the look of this one, and the current submission call is bonkers. www.bodyfluids.org/submissions
Unless I'm lucky tomorrow when I'm leaving, this will be the last find of the trip. +30 at the Etienne Marcel Metro. Bonne nuit.
I've probably walked by this one in the Marais a thousand times. Glad to finally make its acquaintance.
Currently writing something that spends a minute with Louis XII, so finding his old Paris crash pad (from before he was king) was a real fun surprise.
