The "aquifer protection" ballot initiative failed miserably yesterday. Only 2 precincts of 67 voted for it. Turns out water rights holders aren't keen handing control over water safety to the government that poisoned our wells.

The first of the Zinnias are ready. Lots leftover for pollinators. I saw a huge tiger swallowtail butterfly on them yesterday. It was missing almost half of one wing and still getting around okay. They are attracted to the color red and it kept landing trying to feed on a red garden hose!
It's Taco Tuesday. It's the one night you don't need to figure out what's for dinner.
Once again feeling annoyed that a huge part of adult life is just figuring out what's for dinner.
Good thing I was paying more than half attention arriving home today...
Looks like it was arson. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...

Is anybody else here in Eastern Washington getting robo-called to death today? I've never seen this type of money spent on a primary here before. Not even when the Speaker of the House was ousted.
Let the predatory capitalism commence! Local t.v. interviewed a woman helping feed firefighters at a high school parking lot. Instead of answering the question about the volunteer efforts, she held up a t-shirt with their business that cleans fire retardant from un-burned homes.
I'll never understand this mindset. The utility turned off electricity. Which means those where the fire started couldn't put it out with their wells/pumps because those run on electricity. Then the fire reaches the urban area, there are live natural gas lines to help fuel the flames?
Maybe we'll start to see some meaningful movement on climate change now that it's impacts are being felt more by the affluent and well-heeled. The neighborhoods destroyed by this fire were filled with McMansions. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...

Over the decades, our police department spent 100's of millions purchasing military grade equipment like MRAPS, helicopters, etc. But could never find the funding to preserve evidence in sexual assault cases. ACAB. Seriously. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...

We are in mourning this morning. 640 homes lost in a city with a housing crises. All those memories gone in a flash. Very little time to gather a few things and leave. I used to love summertime here. Now I dread it. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...

Red Flag conditions again today. The yellow sections are where the utility company has cut off service. It's a new policy this year. Trying to avoid liability for their lines starting fires. Most of us are on wells with electric pumps. This takes away our first line of defense.
I recommend this product. I don't drink alcohol as much these days, but like an occasional Chelada on very hot days. These work perfectly. 100% juice, too. The store charged me sales tax erroneously. I was ready to make a huge stink because I'm sick of so much incompetence. 100% juice is food.

Cats and Cabbages I thought the cabbage we're goners the morning after I put them out. Got down to 20 degrees, and nearly every leaf froze. I didn't give up, and they are all producing nice heads. I love fresh Cole slaw. Fried cabbage, too.
Uber Eats and DoorDash hid tip buttons and set default tips below 10%. As a result, tips for delivery workers fell 79%. In January, we made these corporations change their apps — and in the past six months, we've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets. This is only the beginning.
Isis and her orange brother Mercury. They are 15. Shining reports from their annual visit yesterday. Mercury still likes to hunt, but he's lost some of his game. So Isis will catch a mouse, stun it, bring it to him to play with and eventually kill and eat. I saw it again last night. So sweet.

Dude has never planted a seed in his lifetime. Gardeners go to the effort to produce food that is much higher quality than what is found in stores. It's pretty much the entire point. You can not get a better tomato at the grocery store and it's not even close.
Another odd moment occurred when Musk insisted that work in the future would be "optional" because robots would do everything. Musk said people might still work in the future but compared it to people who grow their own backyard tomatoes. He said they could just go to the store for better tomatoes.
Have you guys heard about Jimothy, the raccoon who was born with a shortened spine? He's famous in Seattle and, as of late, worldwide. Someone created a theme song for him, and it's awesome. I love this little fella. I might start calling my dog Libby (Mooch) "Libbothy."😆
