Chicago, Bike Grid Now!

@bikegridnow.org

We're demanding a city-wide #bikegridnow with slow & safe bike-prioritized streets across Chicago. bikegridnow.org

ACTION ALERT: Please attend the 19th Police District's monthly meeting to learn more about where the RRPEA pilot stands and how you can help. If CPD isn't going to enforce traffic laws to keep us safe, we need citywide programs that let us help keep us safe. 📍4501 N Clarendon ⏰ Weds July 29th 6:30p

ACTION ALERT 🚨 Ald. Martin (47) is hosting a hearing at the Committee on Public Safety on Thursday, September 3rd at 10:30a. With the 8th and 19th Police District Councilors, there is a proposal to direct all 911 parking violation (PVs) calls to the Department of Finance rather than CPD (1/4).

Current Situation: CPD responds to a high volume of low-priority 911 calls for parking violations (PVs), receiving
about 100,000 PV calls to 911 yearly (source: OIG Dashboard). This makes up almost 8% of total
911 calls citywide. Meanwhile, Chicago's Department of Finance (DOFJ already employs
Parking Enforcement Aides (PEAs) that regularly enforce these same parking violations.

Summary

A pilot program in the 8

th and 19th Police Districts to reassign primary response

for parking-related 911 calls to DOF Parking Enforcement Aides, to be
designated as Rapid Response Parking Enforcement Aides (RRPEAs). In each of
these two Districts-Chicago's most populous-PVs account for approximately
10% of all 911 calls.CPD would retain full parking enforcement authority, and
would remain the primary responder to PV calls outside of RRPEA working
hours and on holidays.
A collaborative model with DOF, CPD, and OEMC offers significant advantages:
• Improved Efficiency: Assigning parking enforcement to a more appropriate
agency allows for a more immediate response and a more efficient use of
City resources.
• Save CPD Officers' Time: Removing nearly 10% of low-level 911 calls from
CPD's plate would free up officers' time to address other policing matters.

• Enhanced Constituent Satisfaction: Quicker response times for parking-
related issues will boost public satisfaction and increase safety.

• Revenue Generation: Timely enforcement and citations by RRPEAs are
expected to generate City revenue. Each active PEA currently generates

about $335,000 in net revenue. This pilot program is projected to be self-
sustaining.

• Model for Alternative Response: This pilot can serve as a blueprint for other
alternative first-response initiatives in Chicago and throughout the country.
• From 2022-2024, fewer than 0.05% of PV calls involved a violent or
potentially violent situation. (108 out of more than 278,500 calls.)

We are SO tired of being hit on Lincoln Ave so we're jamming. The NW side has Milwaukee, the SW side has Archer, and the West side is getting Ogden. We want the same for Lincoln Ave, which CDOT is not maintaining. 📍 Oz Park (Lincoln/Larrabee/Webster) ⏰ Monday 7/27, 6:30 meet, 6:45 roll

One of our marshals had their bike stolen at Leavitt/Cermak today. The bike says "scourer" and has cork handles; it's one of a kind. They have a small reward if you find it or the kindness of your heart will do. Throw a lock on it + get in touch with us somehow and we'll get it back to them.

"On the last Sunday of August, September, and October, this stretch of Milwaukee Ave will be totally closed to car traffic. The goal of the event is to promote pedestrian activity and help people reimagine how this space can be used. In order to accomplish this, we need as much help as we can get! "

Has a road near you been resurfaced, but the bike lane paint was not put back down? Is the paint fading in an existing lane? Let us know below or DM us. We've seen many examples of CDOT failing to replace paint in the 32nd, 40th, 47th, and 48th wards so far
