Good morning, Mr. Frederick: Isabel Paterson's The Road of the Gods ( Liveright, $2.50) is a very good example of something rather rare in our literary generation-a colorful, fast-moving romance of a primitive and pagan community in northern Europe just before the coming of the Roman legions.
My commitment to staying off the bike and focusing on the looming semester is weak at best.
Friday fruit and flowers (with a little early fall foliage!) from the Sigma DP2 Quattro
Some random Grand Borks shots from an afternoon stroll. Taken with a Nikon D600 and a 24-85 mm lens.

I was cleaning out a closet (which I realize sounds inherently unlikely, but here we are) and found a 2011 Nikon CoolPix P7100. This is one of the "supposively" magical CCD cameras ("ackchyually" it's in the jpeg conversion). So here are some magical shots taken as jpegs like it's 2011.
If you're wondering: I can't kneel like the dude in the image (As James McMurty quipped: "I wouldn't get down on my knees on a bet..."). I am open to other questions, though. I'm both an #archaeologist and #pseudoarchaeologist. I'm amphibious. I can shoot with my left hand and my right...
Ok folks... it's that time again. It's... *drum roll* #AskAnArchaeologist day. 🎉🎉 That day when you get to ask whatever you want about #archaeology and we will endeavour to find you an answer!! #FestivalofArchaeology
A few more film photos. Kodak Tri-X. The old dog is the late Mighty Milo. It was nice to see him on the film when I got it developed. He passed away a month ago. His paw in the light is prescient.
A few more film photos (Kodak Gold 200) from the half-frame. I scratched the film when I loaded it and that left streaks across the negatives that I had to correct digitally. It only seemed to have happen on the color film. I left the marks on the last one as traces of the mechanical process.
Some Tri-X and Gold 200 in my little half-frame camera. This is the first film photos that I've taken in 20+ years.
I promised myself NO CYCLING this summer and just some short easy runs. I made it about 1O days before I was out on my bike. Ugh. My lack of resolve while culturally appropriate (and au courant) is disappointing…
Some photos from yesterday. A smokey morning and some flowers in the evening using a 24-70 mm lens on the Nikon D600. The more I play with this almost-vintage D600, the more I enjoy using it. I wish I could describe why I like it better, but there's something about how it renders color and texture.
Final report for the Isthmia season ... DONE and SENT to our the director of MSU Excavations at Isthmia, Jon Frey. I made a fun cover for it. There's nothing more #SlowArchaeology than #HandMade and #SlowWheel pottery.
I continue my quixotic quest to photograph smoke. I adore smoky skies. They remind me of the famous smog photos of cities in the 1970s and hint at noire mystery laced with nostalgia for gritty, more grey-scale times.
I submitted copy edits on a book and discovered, to my surprise, that I did order books for my fall classes. Two things off my list... so it was time for Wandering Walk Wednesday with my little Ricoh.
I missed Albert Ayler's birthday yesterday. youtu.be/4_C-ronM8Bk?...

Some photos from a memory card in my little Sigma DP2 Quattro. They seemed perfect for #FoveonFriday
Some garden photos. There's something about very hot days that make me want to be outside. It's like very cold days in the winter. We've become to used to climate control spaces that only the extremes of heat and cold make us feel anything. Or something.
First walk of the summer just in time to see the very first hints of the trees changing for fall.
