Iran has the oldest squad in the World Cup, Côte d'Ivoire the youngest
My brother asked me about average world cup squad heights, so I could hardly help myself. Turns out that Netherlands vs. Japan is only the 7th largest height differential game we'll see in the group stages; Bosnia vs Qatar is the largest
I’ve watched every game the US has played in the World Cup since 1994, and that was easily the most dominant and comfortable they’ve ever been
@jmduke.com nit from www.jmduke.com/posts/victor...: Kenny Atkinson is the coach of the Cavs, not JB Bickerstaff, and the one who claimed they were "up analytically" www.espn.com/nba/story/_/...

I ran a test of container file system performance on Mac OS by the simple expedient of measuring `npm install` with a cold cache. github.com/llimllib/con... Orbstack did shockingly well, paying basically no performance tax whatsoever for running in a container. I've not previously used it

The Huskies have not put the ball in the basket many times, that seems to be their main issue
David Hogg's article on LLMs in Astrophysics, "Why do we do Astrophysics?" is the most thoughtful critique I've yet read on the topic, and relevant for computer scientists and software developers: https://arxiv.org/html/2602.10181
@noadalzell.bsky.social enjoyed your article on D White’s block! Just a nit: you misspelled Pelle Larsson’s name three times
@deanolytics.bsky.social looks like today's NBA summary isn't working
I am just coming back to life now, I actually died when Braylon Mullins hit that shot

At work the question came up of how we ought to label the y-axis of charts that have large values. Especially if we cross orders of magnitude, should the whole axis be labeled in the larger order of magnitude? Which made me wonder how some popular charting libraries handle large numbers by default
The UConn women are nearly breaking the @barttorvik.bsky.social ranking system. Teams' overall strength is listed as the probability of a team beating an average team, and given to four decimal places; the UConn women are listed with a 99.96% chance of beating an average team; .03% from the limit
