Am I misunderstanding these new schemes -- it seems mid and senior career stage people will no longer be able to apply for their own salary costs? Surely this will have fairly big (negative) consequences, especially for research contingent people?

It’s time for my annual thread of Australian poetry books you should buy ppl for Xmas. No one buys poetry partly cos it’s intimidating. It rarely makes xmas book guides. But poetry is an ethical gift that: supports underfunded writers; wins brownie points with gift receiver; improves the human soul

Reading the responses to this is unbelievably interesting, I can’t wait to share them in an eventual book

ARC are considering a restructure in which jobs there will be lost, a source tells me. This seems ridiculous when they're about to completely overhaul the entire grants system – they've never undertaken anything so large before! I've long said ARC needs MANY MORE staff, & should do more, not less.
