A truly abysmal 10/9 overnight. #teammoth So, a bit of leaf-mining therapy was called for this afternoon. Most of it came to naught but… #407 Stigmella tityrella (Small Beech Dot)

Imagine seeing 106 of these beauties so far north!! (my pic from Madeira 2018). The old Estaca record was 10, the new one 10x as many! Also occurence there a fairly recent phenomenon, last few years. Cornwall watch out in July early August!

I photographed some leaf-mines yesterday and then forgot to work them out. I think this is: NFM/NFG #406 Phyllonorycter acerifoliella (Maple Leaf-miner) on Field Maple. It’s also new for the tetrad. 🔲 #teammoth

Final Moth currently a mystery Coleophora - soon to be resolved. #teammoth Whitethroat (maybe 2), Lesser Whitethroat and Marsh Tit (rare this year) in the Tit flock this a.m. I’m getting seriously worried about Hobby this year. I wonder if the Peregrines are keeping them away from the garden?

A steady increase in the #teammoth trap over recent days, (74/35) perhaps to do with the waning Moon and higher night-time temperature. Just the one new Moth, but a real looker, and tiny! NFM/NFG #403 Etainia decentella (Sycamore Seed Dot) It’s new for tetrad and Hectad.

Only ever seen a couple of these, including @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social Lackford, and this week @rspb.bsky.social Lakenheath. Pleased to get one in the trap this morning, especially as there were precious few Moths around. NFG #402 Webb’s Wainscot, which is also new for the tetrad. 🔲 #teammoth

This was easy to identify, but impossible to catch. Started off 3m up on a wall, and, after my efforts with a pot and a litter-picker, ended up 10m up on a wall! 😮 NFG #401 Clouded Buff. Good job I took a safety picture. #teammoth

Looks like my Viburnum Leaf-miner mine, was a Viburnum Tortrix mine, so knocked back by one. 🙊 No such problems with this #400 Lime-speck Pug on a lobby ceiling. #teammoth

The micro from @rspb.bsky.social Lakenheath yesterday turned out to be Bucculatrix bechsteinella (Hawthorn Tuft) one I’ve had last year in the garden, but only as a leaf-mine. So, here’s a (poor) photo. #teammoth

I wasn’t too fussed (really?) at my modest haul, as I wanted to make time for the @rspb.bsky.social Lakenheath Moth trap - which didn’t disappoint. Tawny-barred Angle, Black Arches, Reed Dagger and Platytes alpinella (Hook-tipped Grass-moth were all new for me. Also a Micro t.b.a. #teammoth

I was surprised at the small catch in this mornings #teammoth trap. 18/16 which does include a mystery moth, either quite common or quite rare - I wonder which way it will fall. 🔪 🤷🏻‍♂️ And I was really hoping to get to my 400th garden Moth of the year today. 🫤

A good start to the morning, with a few wall Moths, hopefully there’ll be something in the trap. Not sure if the rain would’ve helped or hindered. #92 Willow Warbler, a nice lemony youngster, calling and even a little bit of sub-song. That led to me seeing a Juv Lesser Whitethroat.

Not the best image (they are usually beyond my reach) but at least it is an image. Hummingbird Hawk-moth in the garden this afternoon. For some reason they always arrive late in the summer here. #teammoth

I tried the trap back at another spot last night. I’m not sure if that’s the reason, or just that conditions were improved, but the catch was back up to a decent size; 120/46. The final decantee was this NFM/NFG #399 Coenobia rufa (Small Rufous) which is also new for the tetrad. #teammoth

I’ve had trouble trying to photograph Argyresthia goedartella (Brassy Y) before. Too shiny! This one was not very shiny at all. #teammoth

My 3rd Mompha of the night was this NFM/NFG #398 Mompha epilobiella (Buff Mompha) another addition to the tetrad. 🔲 #teammoth

A much better trap this morning! First up, one I’ve only posted as a Caterpillar this year. Scythropia crataegella (Hawthorn Moth). Judging by the larval webs all around the garden I’ll be seeing a few more of these. #teammoth

I thought I’d seen this last year at Cavenham, but when I checked my photograph/record, it was clearly a Barred Grass-moth! 🙊 So, this mornings Moth was in actuality a ✅ and quite handsome too, for a Grass-moth. NFM/NFG #393 Catoptria falsella (Chequered Grass-moth) from 31/22 #teammoth

OTD 40 yrs ago: This 1st for Britain; Red-necked Stint at Blacktoft. What started out as either un-ID’ed, and/or mis-ID’ed was eventually resolved, and seems so easy in hindsight. I remember RGM’s comment: “I went expecting a funny-looking Little Stint and saw a funny looking Robin.” #UKRareBirds

I have seen this by day on Cavenham Heath, so it was nice to add it to NFG #392 Marbled Clover. A bit of a Brecks speciality. It was the first Moth in to the trap last night, so I was pleased it decided to stay the night. #teammoth

A modest #teammoth trap last night. #390 Yponomeuta cagnagella (Spindle Ermine) and #391 Phyllonorycter comparella (Poplar Leaf-miner) were welcome yearticks amongst the 37/23.
