A special reunion in Nairobi. While on vacation, Blanchet Chef Shannon caught up with former resident Peter, who recently returned to Kenya after being unable to obtain U.S. citizenship. We wish Peter could have stayed.

Residents of our transitional housing program took a well-deserved break from their daily work in the kitchen and café to enjoy a special evening at the Oregon Zoo. Volunteer Karen Story led an art making session. It was perfect timing too after many of our residents experienced a tragic loss earlier in the week. It was such a nice opportunity.

It has been a hard week for our community after losing a friend. Then one of our guests left us this note.

Artist Eva Wrzesinski is back in the cafe to draw portraits of our guests. Recently, she sat with Delonte, who stopped in for lunch and a backpack. He's an artist himself, looking for long-term housing. At the end of the year, we will have a gallery show with the portraits on display.

Volunteers sorted 68 BOXES of clothing returns donated by Columbia Sportswear. Most of it was seasonally appropriate shorts, T-shirts, and tank tops, with a few coats thrown in. We will surely give it all away to our guests experiencing homelessness or poverty.

We need your help collecting new and gently used reusable water bottles. Donated bottles will be sanitized, filled with water, and distributed to guests at Blanchet House. If you can help, please drop off bottles at Blanchet House Mon-Sat, 8-10:30 am or 1:30-4 pm.

Chili dogs and ice cream floats were served to guests of our women’s shelter to celebrate the 4th. It was our first movie night too! Guests so appreciated the extra love from our amazing staff last night.

Blanchet’s 4th of July sack lunch takeout window was a success! Many folks expressed their sincere appreciation for us being open today. THANK YOU to everyone who donated sack lunches!
