Episode 5 Part 23

Panel 1:
Sinner grabs Nick on the back of his shoulder, angrily shouting out “HEY!”. Now turned around, Jun quietly directs Nick: “put me in the Blue Bear Bomb.”
Nick, just as quiet: “ok!”

Panel 2:
Nick does as he is told, kicking Sinner in the gut, locking their arms behind their back and lifting them up into the power bomb position. While up in the air, Jun once again quietly directs Nick: “don’t kick out, Nick.”

Panel 3:
Suddenly, Sinner reverses the finisher with a hurricanrana, using their legs to flip Nick forward onto his back.

Panel 4:
Now fully wrapped up on the ground, shoulders pinned to the mat and legs held down for extra leverage, Nick is fully trapped in a small package as Sinner sits on top of him.
Gene counts “1, 2, 3!” for the pin as the match finally reaches its conclusion, Sinner beating Nick Dread by a quick pinfall, not Aëro by submission like they planned.

Episode 5 Part 22

Panel 1:
Aëro finally comes crashing back down to earth, specifically straight through the commentary table. The table snaps and splinters in two as Aëro smashes back first through the wood, bringing not only himself down to the ground but Julian and Chooz as well. Julian trips and flails, desperately grasping at the table for balance but to no avail, while Chooz falls straight back, his steel chair cracking beneath his large frame, no longer able to support the added weight of a plummeting Aëro.

Panel 2:
Nick huffs and pants as he stares at the carnage he just caused. The crowd goes ballistic, cheering like they’ve never cheered before, chanting “ABW! ABW! ABW!!!”. Nick can’t even react to them; he’s too fixated on what just happened, frozen in place.

Episode 5 Part 20

Panel 1:
Chooz: “Aëro was maybe a second away from tapping out to Purgatorio, and Nick Dread stopped his hand before it could tap! I can’t believe it!!!”
Back in character now, Nick Dread yanks Aëro by the hand towards him, snarling and giving a deep, angry growl as he stares into Aëro’s very soul with rage. Aëro starts to become frightened.
Julian: “neither can this crowd, it’s electric in here!!! But look at Dread’s face, he looks pissed! I don’t think that was a save; I think Dread realized who kicked him in the face!”

Panel 2:
Nick stands up and, still holding onto Aëro’s hand, frees him loose from Sinner’s legs by pulling him up and out.
Chooz: “you’re right, Julian! Dread knows if Sinner tapped Aëro out, Dread loses the match too! with a massive pull, Nick rips Aëro out of Purgatorio!”
Nick starts dragging Aëro across the ring towards the commentary desk.

Panel 3:
We see a cheery excited Chooz calling the action, fully in fanboy mode, not realizing yet where this is going, unlike Julian.
Chooz: “Nick’s got Aëro by the arm,”
Julian: “Chooz-“
Chooz: “he’s pulling him our way-“
Julian: “CHOOZ! Nick!”
Julian jumps out of his seat and starts stumbling back in horror as realization finally sets in on Chooz’s face.

Panel 4:
We finally see things from the commentary table’s view: Nick has dragged Aëro all the way to the ropes in front of them, staring down the commentary table with an evil sadistic smile. He pulls down the ropes with one arm and begins utilizing the other to lift Aëro up off the ground by the arm, firm grasp on the same hand he saved just moments ago, Aëro’s feet leaving contact with the mat and starting to fly through the air as Nick makes his aim. Julian and Chooz plead out “WAIT! WAIT!” and “OMG OMG OMG” but to no avail. This is happening.

Episode 5 Part 21

Panel 1:
A moment frozen in time. We watch from the ABW live stream feed as Nick throws Aëro with ease over his own head, straight out of the ring over the ropes, through the sky above the captivated audience, and heading directly downwards towards a panicked commentary table. Aëro flails upside down through the air, as if he had been nothing more than a ragdoll or a shotput hurled by Nick, all with just the strength of one arm. Behind them, we see the crowd watching in awe at the almost picturesque moment, many freaking out with fellow audience members or trying to record the moment themselves to save a moment of in ring immortality.

Jun maintains the Purgatorio bridge, trying to glance over at what just happened.
Jun: “wuh- Nick? (hushed) the fuck is going on?!”

Panel 2:
A flurry of in-moment images one after another from Nick’s perspective: his hand still firmly grasping Leo’s, Damien leaning on the ring apron filming it all for the livestream, Julian and Chooz sitting ringside at the commentary table. The commentary table…

Panel 3:
DING! Lightbulb! Nick smiles. He has an idea.
Nick to Leo: “(hushed): follow my lead, Leo! you trust me?”

Panel 4:
A moment passes. Leo stares in awe at Nick, hands still held together. A flutter of emotions floats through the air. Leo blushes slightly and sniffs away his tears, finally giving Nick a smile. The stress is gone, just like that.
Leo, softly, just for Nick: “okay, Nicky…”

Panel 1:
Nick watches on as Aëro (and more so, Leo himself) struggles with the submission. From the crowd perspective, Aëro Is fighting to not tap; from Nick’s perspective, it’s Leo who’s doing the fighting, delaying the inevitable end of his career goal to never tap in a match. Leo groans and protests in vain as Nick starts panting heavier and quicker, watching on with building anxiety. He doesn’t know what to do, and it’s eating him alive.
Julian: “I know this lock all too well. Aëro is a fighter to the end, but it takes a miracle to escape Purgatorio.”

Panel 2:
Suddenly, a stray voice cries out from the crowd: “AËRO! DON’T TAP!”
Nick glances over nervously and spots the source: Mason, the young squirrel boy from the supermarket earlier that day, desperately cheering on Aëro.
Mason, yelling: “C’MON AËRO! YOU CAN DO IT! DON’T TAP, YOU GOT THIS!!!”

Panel 3:
The world starts becoming quiet to Nick. All he sees is Leo in front of him, the smallest tears starting to form in the tabby cat’s eyes. Leo knows what is about to happen and watches shaking and trembling as his own hand, and by degree his own fighting spirit, begins to fall without a say in the matter.
Nick’s thoughts are now flooded with the dream Leo had shared with him in confidence years before: “even when there’s no way out, and it seems hopeless… you never give up… because you never know, you know? maybe things will be okay!”

Panel 4:
“that’s what I want the fans to remember, Nicky!”
Nick snaps back to reality, a look of shocking realization hitting him. Nick Dread has left; what’s left is the real Nick, and the real Nick simply cannot let this happen.
In an instant, in a flash, reflexively, without him even realizing it, Nick’s hand moves on its own at breakneck speed, reaching for the falling hand of Leo, a mere second before tapping out and letting the dream die.

Episode 5 Part 18

Panel 1:
At the last possible moment, Nick clasps Leo’s hand in his, stopping the tap out dead in its tracks before it could begin. The two stare at each other in a moment of shock and awe, confusion, relief, gratefulness, and maybe 1000 other emotions combined, all in a couple seconds that seem to last an eternity. The crowd erupts in loud raucous cheers, cameras through the crowd snapping and recording the moment. In all parts of the building, everyone has their own reactions:
Rich, still on headset directing from the back, screams in rage: “WHAT THE F-“
At the commentary desk, Julian, who normally can’t stop talking even if you paid him, holds his beak shut in shock and balances himself with his hand on the broad shoulder of Chooz. Chooz lets out a large GASP, eyes and mouth as wide as ever.
Gene stands silent in quiet disbelief in the ring, hand still raised to call the submission he thought was coming.
Mason looks on in delight from his spot in the crowd. If nothing else, they’ve earned one believer tonight.

Nick rolls to the outer apron of the ring after getting kicked, pretending to be knocked out while Aëro is tackled in the ring.
Chooz: “Nick Dread may be out cold, Razor rolled out to the ring floor after being bombed through the ring mat, now it’s just Aëro and Sinner. Sinner takes Aëro down!”

Panel 3:
The commentary table gets riled up as they see what’s about to happen.
Julian: “Sinner’s got Aëro’s legs-“
Chooz: “and they’re locking it in! they’re trying- yes! it’s locked in!”

Panel 4:
Julian & Chooz: “PURGATORIO!”
We see Sinner fully locked into an arched figure four leg lock, a finisher they call “Purgatorio”. The crowd boos as Aëro tries to break the hold, twisting in pain as his ankles cross over one another in an unnatural fashion, feeling as if they’re about to snap off.

Gene can hear this through an earpiece as he continues to ref.
Gene to Jonny and Nick, who are still stuck in a headlock: “good job, boys. time to wrap it up.”
Jonny and Nick, without breaking character: “heard.”

Panel 2:
Nick managers to get on his feet, carrying Jonny like a backpack. He tips himself backward and jumps, landing back first on top of the koala, squashing Jonny into the ring mat under approximately 420 lbs of brown bear.
Julian: “Dread is rising, chokehold still held by Razor, and- WOW!!! massive falling slam, and the hold is broken!”

Panel 3:
Back on their feet, Jonny is stuck head first between Nick’s legs. Nick locks Jonny’s arms back behind him and hoists him up into an underhook powerbomb position. Jonny desperately flails his arm looking for a way out to no avail.
Chooz: “Dread gets Razor up, and we all know this move! it’s the-“

Panel 4:
Nick and Jonny come crashing down into the ring with the “BLUE BEAR BOMB!” (Nick Dread’s finisher). Jonny lands with immense force, like an asteroid crashing into the earth, nearly leaving a crater in the mat

Panel 2:
Zoom in on the current amount of “UViewers”, right now at 1320 viewers.
Rich, offscreen watching the stream: “hmm… could be better, could be worse…”

Panel 3:
Back out at ringside, Damien records the fight with a large shoulder mounted professional camera, leaning against the ring mat from the outside looking in.
Rich through Damien’s headset: “make sure to get right up in there, Damien.”
Damien: “I’m literally at ringside, Rich. unless you want Gene to have a ‘ref cam’ or something, this is as close as it gets.”

Panel 4:
The fight roars on. Aëro gives a sweeping kick to Sinner’s abdomen. Sinner sends a jaw-jacking punch across Aëro’s face. Nick pounces and pushes Sinner back with force, causing them to fly back a few feet. Jonny latches on around Nick’s neck and drives him down to the mat with a bulldog.

Chooz: “and you can’t say he got all of that one, lost some grip towards the landing.”

Julian: “you know that’s gonna get to Aëro, guy’s a perfectionist. that’s a testament to how much Sinner can get into your head.” Aëro sits in the ring in an anxious daze, hands on his head attempting to get himself together.

Panel 1:
Sinner performs a springboard uppercut directly to Aëro’s jaw, knocking the cat several feet back through the air.
Chooz: “well, this is a hell of a fight so far, but once again, Sinner is showing why he’s the fighter to beat here.”

Panel 2:
Nick is spread out in an abdominal stretch by Sinner, wrenching his arm way back and his neck down to the mat.
Julian: “I can’t say for sure what they do for fun down in ‘The Bottomless Pit’, but if I had to guess, it involves pain, suffering, and annihilation!”

Panel 3:
Now Sinner has Jonny stuck in a corner, raining down 10-count punches onto him with a sadistic smile on their face.
Chooz: “Julian, you’ve personally fought Sinner here in ABW before. what do you need to watch out for? their strikes, their holds, their ring awareness?”

Panel 4:
A close-up of the live feed. The camera is zoomed straight in on Sinner giving a massive HISS, staring down the lens of the camera with cold dead eyes. The crowd showers them in boo’s.
Julian: “with Sinner? you have to watch out for EVERYTHING.”

Chooz: “everyone knows Sinner has been stalking for the Midwest Title. if one of these guys could get one over on him, that sends a big message!”
Jonny Razor dropkicks Nick in the back, causing the bear to trip forward into the ring ropes.

Panel 2:
Razor takes advantage, leaping over the ropes and crashing down on Nick with a leg drop. Razor takes the opportunity to taunt towards the crowd.
Julian: “dropkick from Jonny has Dread up against the middle rope, and Razor – springboard over the top rope and NAILS Dread with a falling leg drop!”

Panel 3:
The crowd boos Jonny as he eggs them on.
Razor: “I need a grog, these bludgers ain’t NOTHING! yeah yeah, hate whatcha ain’t! yobbos, the lot of yah!”
We zoom out a little and Razor suddenly realizes that both Sinner and Aëro have stopped fighting and are standing right on each side of him, which shuts him up.
Razor: “…uh-“

Panel 4:
Without hesitation, both fighters superkick Razor at the same time, with Sinner landing a kick on his face and Aëro drilling a kick into his abdomen.

Panel 1:
Nick and Jonny just stare out to ringside at what just happened, in equal parts disbelief and surprise. The bell rings, starting the match. Nick glares over at Jonny and gives a mean smile. Game on.

Panel 2:
Nick hurls his hand back and chops the soul out of Johnny’s chest with a heavy SCHMACK, much to the pain of Jonny.

Panel 3:
Nick grabs Jonny around the abdomen and lifts him into a massive bear hug.
Chooz: “ohh it’s ON! Nick and Johnny are setting things off inside the ring-“
Julian: “-while Aëro and Sinner have been at it NONSTOP outside the ring!”
Sinner reels a spinning kick right across the bridge of Aëro’s nose, sending him backwards.

Panel 4:
Meanwhile, backstage in the green room aka Rich’s office, we see Rich in full director mode, sitting at his desk and watching the program as it airs live online. He wears a headset so he can directly speak to the commentary team, production team, etc.
Chooz (on the stream): “it’s barely been a minute or two into this matchup, Julian, but these guys are already going full throttle!”
Julian (on the stream): “with the addition of Sinner into the mix, you have to, Chooz.”
Rich, talking into his headset: “good so far, guys. bring up the Midwest Title, remind the viewers.”

Panel 1:
Nick now stands in the ring.
Chooz: “we’ve got Jonny, Aëro, and a raging Nick Dread. who is number 4?”
Announcer: “and now, the 4th participant…”

Panel 2:
Announcer: “from the Bottomless Pit, weighing 235 lbs, ‘The Accursed’ SINNER!”
Jun, aka Sinner, makes their entrance to a resounding wave of boo’s from the crowd. They have intricate face paint on their eyes and cheeks, as well as Kard Chuek Muay Thai style rope wrapped around each hand and forearm, mimicking fighting gloves. They also have tape wrapped feet and long flowing pants with slash marks decorated across them. Sinner keeps their hands clasped and eyes closed before suddenly opening up, showing milky white dead eyes (aka decorative contacts). Sinner gives a hiss, a long thin tongue slithering out past their sharp fangs.

Panel 3:
Nick stares out towards Sinner, taking in the threat.
Julian: “look at those dead eyes of Sinner, gives me the creeps! how do you begin to fight someone like-“
Chooz: “whoa whoa whoa look!”
Out of nowhere, especially to Nick‘s surprise, Aëro runs towards the ropes and vaults himself over them, zooming past Nick at breakneck speed.

Panel 4:
Aëro comes crashing down onto Sinner, who hadn’t even made it into the ring yet, landing his surprise vaulting plancha with ease.

Nick watches Leo exit through the curtains and listens as he’s announced to cheers from the audience.
Announcer: “from Violet, IL, weighing 215 lbs… “The Undeniable Son of the Sky”… AËRO!”

Panel 3:
A moment of quiet in the dark of the backstage. Nick gathers himself, no one else around. He closes his eyes and just breathes for a moment. Inhale… Exhale…

Panel 4:
Announcer: “and next…”
Nick’s maw snarls into a deep vicious growl, long hair falling down in front of his face, teeth glaring. Nicky is gone; Nick Dread is here.

Episode 5 Part 8

Panel 1:
Nick pushes his way through the curtains out into the arena, light soaking in through the entry way.
Announcer: “ from The Great North… weighing in at 420 lbs…”

Panel 2:
Under the lights of the arena, we begin to see more of what the crowd sees when they see Nick. Large open paws with sharp claws snap open. A wide grizzly scowl spreads across Nick’s face.

Panel 3:
His eyes shoot open, glaring and donned with war paint. He looks about ready to burst with rage. Out in the audience, we see Mason, the young squirrel fan Nick met earlier at the grocery store, smiling, and watching on with his dad.
Announcer: “The Blue Bear…”

Panel 4:
Announcer: “NICK DREAD!”
Nick finally explodes, letting out a massive ROAR! with open hands thrown back in an arch. He receives a mixed reaction from the crowd, some cheers and some boo’s, as he makes his way to the ring, accompanied by his entrance music.

Panel 1:
We cut back to the live feed of the show.
Chooz: “well Julian, to give those just tuning in a quick recap-“
Julian: “aww how thoughtful of you, Chooz! I wouldn’t have done that.”

Panel 2:
We see Rhapsody and Valerie Night, a bat, just outside the ring, reaching for Magnolia, a bee, and Sandy Lion, a lion, clearly angry as Flower Power scampers away.
Chooz: “Sandy Lion and Magnolia managed to beat Rhapsody and Valerie Night by count out what could certainly be called an upset victory!”
Julian: “upset? oh you got that right! And nobody is more ‘upset’ than Val and Rhapsody. those two can hold a grudge. if they’re smart, Flower Power better sleep with one eye open!”

Panel 3:
We see Pulvermacher, a large brutish boar, lifting a scared Carl Toad (who is actually a tree frog) over his head with a roar as Gene the French bulldog referee watches on in the background.
Chooz: “following that, we witnessed PURE DESTRUCTION as ‘Die Brutalität’ Pulvermacher laid waste to all that once was of Carl Toad.”
Julian: “Pulvermacher was here tonight to send a message, not to Carl Toad, but to our ABW World Champ King V. the message? ‘I’m coming for you!’”

Panel 4:
Moving on to the next match, we see Marcus, aka Jonny Razor, make his entrance to the ring, accompanied by his theme song and a chorus of boo’s from the crowd.
Chooz: “now folks, what was meant to be a 3-way match here tonight is now a 4-way, we just got official word from Rich Kenny himself!”
Julian: “Jonny Razor is making his way to the ring, we’ve already confirmed Aëro and Nick Dread are in the match. question on everyone’s minds: ‘who’s #4?’”

Panel 1:
Gene gives Nick a reassuring pat on the shoulder as Nick continues to look towards Leo concerned:
Gene: “heh, well, I know bout ’distracted’. I work for Rich Kenny, you remember? so long as you’re all good for the match.”

Panel 2:
We see an up close shot of the card for the night, written on a small whiteboard held by Gene. It reads as follows:
“FINAL SCHEDULE (NO CHANGES! -RICH):
1. KING V - PROMO
2. SANDY LION + MAGNOLIA (FLOWER POWER) vs. RHAPSODY + VALERIE NIGHT
- FP beats R+V by count out
3. PULVERMACHER vs. CARL TOAD
- P beats C by pin, cuts promo
4. SINNER v. JONNY RAZOR v. AËRO v. NICK DREAD
- S beats A by submission
5. KING V vs DOM RESTIVO
- P interrupts, P+D brawl V, use up weapons”
Gene reads with a disappointed sigh, then looks back at Nick.

Panel 3:
Gene gives a soft smile.
Gene: “…listen, kid… I know that meeting felt rushed. it was. but you can have faith that if Rich books a match a certain way, it’s for a reason. he’s been in the industry so long he used to manage Moses. hell, me too. back in those wild west territory days of wrestling, a guy didn’t like a finish, he’d start fighting for REAL. that would get outta hand real fast. thankfully, it’s not that bad anymore.”

Panel 4:
Nick continues to look down, stressed and worried. He’s listening to Gene, but there’s a lot on his mind.
Gene: “I think sometimes you put the whole world on your shoulders instead of just focusing on your own growth. you’re a good talent, kid. you stand by your friends like a champ. but champs in this line of work, at some point or another, gotta focus on themselves. when you’re out there tonight, try to focus on you for once. I’ll bet whatever happens, this thing that’s got you ‘distracted’ right now, it won’t seem so much like the end of the world. I thought the world would end a million times by now. so far, so good.”

Episode 5 Part 5

Panel 1:
Gene gives Nick one more reassuring pat on the back as he turns away, reading the card again.
Gene: “just a thought. I’m sure you’ll do good.”

Panel 2:
Zoom in on the part of the whiteboard Gene is reading. “S beats A by submission”.
Gene, annoyed, quietly to himself as he walks away: “Jesus, Rich. what even is this card?”

Panel 3:
Nick just stares at his own reflection in the mirror, now more conflicted than before. Pensiveness grows in the air.

Panel 4:
Nick sighs.
Nick: “why does it feel like whatever I do, it’s gonna be wrong?”

Panel 1:
Nick sits and half listens to the announcement in the locker room room behind him: “final schedule! King V promo, followed by women’s tag match. Pulvermacher has his squash match, gives his promo. Next segment is now a 4 way match with the Midwest Title in focus. ending with King V vs. Restivo, Pulvermacher comes out to brawl, they fight, you get the drill, we go off the air. that sound good?”
Nick glances over to his left.

Panel 2:
We see Leo in his gear stretching before the match, a hopeless, concerned look on his face. He’s clearly lost in thought, and it’s not a good thought.
Nick thinks: “‘he’ll be a pro about it.’ that’s what I told Jun, I was so sure. but just look at him. how do you put on a show knowing you’re about to have your heart broken…”

Panel 3:
Now Nick is distressed too, thinking: “sorry Leo…”, lost in thought as well. Suddenly, Gene puts a hand on Nick’s shoulder.
Gene: “Nick.”
Nick nearly jumps out of his seat, going “ah!”.

Panel 4:
His hand still on Nick‘s shoulder, Gene speaks to Nick with a stern but calm tone: “when I call out final schedule for the night, I expect a response, right?”
Nick, still perturbed: “oh, yeah! sorry Gene, I- just distracted.”

Panel 1:
We are now watching the live feed of ABW. The camera show shows the commentary table for the night, with notepads and tablets scattered across, a rowdy crowd behind them, kept back by a guard rail. The commentary team consists of a fashionable thin flamingo with curly hair and a very cheerful plump puma to his right.
Both: “WELCOME TO ABW!“
Flamingo: “as always, it’s your FAVORITE flamingo, Julian Devine-“
Puma: “-and your “play-by-play” puma, Huey Chooz!”

Panel 2:
We go back to the locker room, where Nick is applying his face paint, already decked out in wrestling gear. He sits facing a mirror as the live broadcast continues to play out into the locker room behind him on a laptop.
Laptop: “folks, we got a fight filled night ahead of us as we drive full steam ahead to ‘EXIT LIGHT’ on PPV!”

Panel 1:
We see the outside of the Starlight Theatre, promoting on their marquee “Tonight: All Brawl Wrestling Live!”. A line of fans round the sidewalk, scanning in tickets and entering the theater.

Panel 2:
We now see the inside of the theatre, converted into an indie pro wrestling show, complete with an “ABW” ring, commentary table, cameras, guardrails, and sections of folding chair seats, where fans begin to fill out.

Panel 3:
A close-up on a chipmunk, ring announcer, dressed in proper attire.
Chipmunk: “ladies, and gentlemen, it is time…”

Panel 4:
Chipmunk: “TO BRAWL!”
We zoom out to see the ring and the crowd, fully populated with indie wrestling fans, everyone cheering as music plays. Tonight‘s showing of ABW Live has begun!

Gene, to himself: “hmm, THAT’S an angle. interesting…”
Rich, in the room: “Gene! need you back in here.”

Nick: “I’m just- I’m certain Leo talked about this with Rich when he signed on here and Rich was cool with it, so I don’t-“
Jun pushes themself off of the wall.
Jun: “it’s like you said. Leo will find another way to tell his story. he’d be uncreative if he couldn’t.”

Panel 2:
Jun: “you should start getting ready.”
Nick, still thinking: “y-yeah. yeah.”
Jun: “and Nick? believe it or not, I care about storytelling too. I don’t believe in babying the audience, just like how you shouldn’t baby Leo through this.”

Panel 3:
Jun looks back at Nick with a glare, hoping their harsh words get through to him: “you wanna know what wrestling’s about? it’s a reflection of the world we live in, warts and all. and in this world, so-called “good people”? they give up, like, all the time. I personally respect what we do here too much to lie about that. everyone here is mortal, everyone bleeds. if someone can’t handle the reality of all that…”

Panel 4:
Jun: “… they probably shouldn’t be involved in the sport at all.”
Jun walks away, leaving a dismayed Nick behind him.
