Scientist by day 🧪. Dedicated to training the next generation of cancer researchers and solving the mysteries of nutrient use in cancer cells. Blue dot in a very red state. Where are the other blue dots? Husband, step-dad, skier, biker.
CRISPR is one of the best arguments to support basic science. Discovered a little over 10 years ago, CRISPR is a natural mechanism used by bacteria to defend against invading organisms. CRISPR has already revolutionized lab research. Medicine is next and not just cancer. Invest in SCIENCE!
I didn’t have this on my “ how to kill cancer cells “ bingo card. Pretty interesting and impactful if they are right. We must keep, and I’d argue increase, funding for cancer research. One never knows where the next big discovery will come from. @meltart.bsky.social have a look at this. 👍👏
🤩🤩🤩 This is so cool! A possible new single dose treatment for colon cancer that also acts as an immunization from getting it again. It uses bacteria from tree frogs. Short video if you don’t wanna read the article. youtube.com/shorts/VGvuE... www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...
Another win for science. why anyone would to curb all these amazing discoveries. Literally people’s lives depend on innovative studies and clinical trial just like this one. KRAS is mutated in about 50% of all human malignancy, so this is really just the beginning for this type of treatment.
GOOD NEWS! Phase I clinical trial results out of John Hopkins show a first-of-its-kind vaccine designed to target common KRAS mutations was safe AND stimulated KRAS-specific T-cell responses in 90% of study participants who were at HIGH risk of developing pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

What passes for bird in our neighborhood. I was wondering why why our bird feeder was getting emptied so fast. And his gardener buddies. The adolescent bad boys of Park City.
It’s not much. Less than 1 inch. But snow on June 29th is way out of bounds. But given the fire danger in Utah, it’s also much appreciated ❄️
Thanks for adding me to one of your Roll Call starter packs. Much appreciated! Hi all!

It appears to be more and more clear that the Trump administration is mired in its own mistakes.

Not a surprise. Science is real!
Vaccines save lives. This is the FIRST time that ZERO cervical-cancer deaths have been recorded for this age group, and it’s thanks to the introduction of a vaccine against the human papillomavirus (HPV). Yes, you read that correctly. ZERO.
This little bear painting has been hanging in my studio for a while. Please share and help it find a new home! Sunset View 8x8 acrylic on canvas Available in my Etsy store
Grateful for any moisture in the west, even if it’s snow in late May.
Yep. These discoveries come from years of investment in science. CART and immunotherapies were the result of decades of studying the basics of immunology.
We seriously need to invest in our scientists and medical research as a priority. It’s the biggest win/win of them all!
Glad I had already had lunch before I saw this. Absolutely stomach - churning
Don’t share this 😂
The HPV vaccine is an amazing advancement. Incredibly effective and SAFE. Every pre-teen/teen should get it. The post is heartbreaking
I have a patient with cervical cancer on my service. She was the right age for the HPV vaccine when it launched. She's still the right age now. She didn't get it. And she doesn't believe the cancer diagnosis - she thinks it might be parasites. Refused chemo & radiation.

a particularly well written piece by HCR this morning. @hcrichardson.bsky.social. Thank you. With everything else going on, news from the Munich summit is not getting as much attention as it might otherwise and clearly deserves. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

“At the age of 23, before she'd even earned her PhD, Carol Greider made the discovery that would earn her the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Along with her supervisor and co-laureate Elizabeth Blackburn, she discovered the enzyme telomerase…”
Another win for science. Why would anyone want to cut funding for research. It leads to discoveries like this reducing the burden of cancer, not to mention many other diseases. If that doesn’t resonate, it’s an economic driver. Ballpark calculation is that ever dollar spent on research yields $2.50

what's the hold up in releasing them?
Is there any doubt…..
For all of those GOP leaders who chose not to denounce Trump in 2024 because the wanted to have a voice in the party in the future, where are you now? Are you using your inside voice, so quiet that no one can hear? Or are you just complicit?
