I'm a PhD student that researches surveillance technologies used in mental health wards. I look at the organisation of time, and how it contributes to iatrogenic harm.

on assited dying it's really a shame that french parliamentaries - many much to the left of burnham - couldn't grasp the very simple concept he articulated as "personally, I think there’s something that needs to happen first. That is the fixing of the funding of palliative care and social care."

i know the notion of reinstitutionalisation has been debated but in a very short period of time the UK abandoned the cheshire west acid test and the US the olmstead act - both are major legal protections for disabled people from institutional abuse and coercion.

this summer i'm taking a phd break to intern for @gfsc.community - i wrote a blog about their community technology partnership approach & why i think it matters to the care sector. I talk about the hell that oxevision is and the key work of the stop oxevision campaign. gfsc.community/how-health-t...

How health technology is replacing care with surveillance

Surveillance technology in health and social care like Oxevision is intrusive, coercive and not fit for purpose, and much of its development links to warfare. Why is it being commissioned, and where c...

"The steering group is constrained to stick within currently predicted spending" Disabled people are being asked to 'coproduce' cuts. As in The Care Crisis by Emma Dowling, this is Participatory Austerity. Labour's #PIP review is about the ideological needs of politicians, nothing else.

Damning evidence from the Lampard Inquiry today about Oxevision (now LIO health). An EPUT nurse admits the benefits are “very minimal”, that it is “incredibly intrusive” and it doesn’t make observation rounds any quicker or more effective, as Oxehealth (now LIO) claim. #LampardInquiry

Disability benefits assessment must be redrawn as part of a “radical overhaul” as the system is “not fit for purpose,” the government’s landmark review into Pip will say. @jessicaelgot.bsky.social exclusively outlines the major early findings from Timms report. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Exclusive: Landmark review by disability minister will call for ‘dehumanising’ assessment system to be redrawn

Chelsea and Westminster is the poster child for Palantir – the first hospital to use its tech. It claims to have cut waiting lists there by 183,000. But when I investigated for @londonermag.bsky.social, I found evidence that wasn't true. Now MPs are calling for an inquiry. Read my full expose:

Palantir cleared 183,000 patients from one hospital's waiting list. Or did it?

Chelsea and Westminster Trust claimed the tech giant’s software helped it clear a patient backlog, even as its actual waiting list was rising fast

I didn't know Diana Rose had passed and I just found out today and I feel so deeply sad! I didn't know her but her work gave me a lot of hope and also courage. I think about her words very often.

it's been a bit since i read health communism by adler-bolton and vierkant but i think the changing state of tech in mental health supports their key argument. ppl who face institutionalisation used to face abuse. it's the same today except now we also extract value from them through data collection

in my research i get told by ppl who were admitted in psych wards they didnt complain or advocate for their needs bc they didn't know they could - specifically about tech. the new supreme court ruling feels like the continuation of that, ppl are "happy" about being spied on bc they didn't complain

"Ten years later and I’m still faced with coercive practice at every turn, both from the gender clinic and the specialists that work with them." Read 'Accessing gender-affirming care should not be a source of trauma' by NSUN member, Oscar. www.nsun.org.uk/accessing-ge...

Accessing gender-affirming care should not be a source of trauma

As a child, I had no reason to doubt the motivations of the people and the systems that I was told were there to help me.

"Each technological advancement that could free up physician time has instead tightened the productivity ratchet: these “efficiency gains” have simply been used to squeeze more visits, more billing, and more profit out of every hour." 🔥

“The problem is that when it is installed in a health sector that prizes efficiency, surveillance and profit extraction, AI becomes not a tool for care and community but simply another instrument for commodifying human life.”

“‘Clinical-grade’” is an example of marketing puffery designed to borrow authority from medicine without the strings of accountability or regulation. It sits alongside other buzzy marketing phrases like ‘medical-grade’ or ‘pharmaceutical-grade’ for things like steel, silicone, and supplements…”

‘Clinical-grade AI’: a new buzzy AI word that means absolutely nothing
