I’m kind of tracking a conversation here — Leivick’s אין טרעבליקע בין איך ניט געווען Shalit’s און אז איך בין אין טרעבליאנקע יא געווען איז וואס Korn’s ‘ער איז געווען אין טרעבלינקע — אויך דארט איז ער געווען’

Government soup report: Cream of Mushroom. 6.5/10. Not feeling it today
Grabbed another article for tomorrow‘s breaks. But maybe I should actually finish an English book for once.
Rokhl Korn was the highlight of my day today. Pissing down, but at least there was a poem or two.
I’m not sure what it says about me that when I got out of the car to take a picture of a hedgehog, my partner thought I was going to pick in up and bring it home with us in the car…
Very slowly getting back to Leivick on Korn. It’s a good thing my work is worthless, because I don’t get any done.
Ask the NHS what do about constant, unending pain and they tell you to tell your job that you can only work alternate Wednesdays at midnight and hire a maid. Ask your job for time to deal with the NHS and they tell you to make your appointments for Saturdays.
A very strange thing — often when I recall a passage in a book, if it’s something I read recently, I can just about visualise it on the page. The curious part is, I visualise it in English, even if it was not.
Mostly I sort of have permission to do what I do, but am kind of considering going off that again out of love of the game.
Trying to savour the last of our German pickles, but hard to make them last when my eldest has discovered she likes them. A whole pickle aisle there and not even a shelf here.
There is something really delightful in living in a place everyone hates!
One thing I love is that no one outside of Yiddish knows how to parse Leivick’s name. I’ve seen everything from Haim to Henrik. Oh, and here’s Leonard Bernstein, too.
I did. I had the 1962 edition, from my mother’s own childhood. I wasn’t allowed to stay at the school library because ‘we have an encyclopaedia and atlas at home’….
Were you a child who read The World Book Encyclopedia for fun?
‘Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead’ sees heavy rotation in this house, too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qae2...

Indeed there are more than a couple! A non-zero portion of my mind is always taken up with Wolf-Rovs. Which is hard to explain at work.
theres like multiple rabbi-werewolf tales scattered through jewish literary history apparently ingeveb.org/articles/the...
Exciting stuff — apparently some kind of certificate has turned up for Bluma 1.0. Hopefully my mother can figure out how to scan it.
I learned Yiddish because when I contacted the YBC about a translation of ‘Der Volf, ‘ no one answered. Last summer, someone said they’d asked YIVO and they didn’t know. So I got off my arse eventually and here’s my rough and ready version. blumalangerobertson.substack.com/p/the-wolf-p...

Looking at what I want to share before I wind this project up (at leas ton a weekly basis) and think I really have to sit down with a large interview.
Finally recovered enough from our last ferry ride to say how sick I was for those 14-is hours. our cabin was right on the bottom, no window, boiling. I have new respect for immigrant ancestors. And none at all for the bitch in the bar who sat at my table and made puking noises at me and laughed.
Once I spent a weekend dyeing white scrubs pink and buying rope as costumes for a play where the actors were foetuses in a womb who got high by kinking their umbilical cords.
Went to go see The Odyssey and once again, because I am wired backwards, I only know what’s next in the Odyssey because I’ve read Ulysses too many times (not out of my own free will, no)
Had a guy from Belfast on the phone today who kept calling me ‘darling’ and honestly, I was smitten. (I have no idea what people think of my accent.)
I can’t find it right now, but I will post it if I see it again — I read a review by a trans writer about Elliot Page’s character and performance in Nolan’s Odyssey that was just wonderful I think it’s beautiful people can look at the screen and see themselves and their experience there.
Someone walked directly into me from the side today. She looked up and said ‘well, excuse you, then.’ Yeah, ok. Sure.
