Just read that Phish are branding the Fenway shows as "94" in honor of the last time they played a good show in Boston.
Today I secured my ticket to Phish in Fenway on Saturday and I can promise you now you will never see a worse setlist in all your life.
The amazing thing is that McGrupp, Forbin, Harpua in MSG is actually LESS weird than these guys getting in a smelly 1980s van and playing these songs in clubs across the country.
I really like Esther and Guyute but back to back in a set is kinda rough.
A colleague just asked me who my first celebrity crush was, I said “Sinead O’Connor” without hesitation and then 20 minutes later realized what today is. 😔
I find Jon Fishman’s take on “Purple Rain” to be oddly moving and also hope my friends who are mega Prince fans never, ever have to hear it.
It’s a bit rough how much better Phish shows are without any 21st century songs.
I half wondered if they would attempt to recreate the Real Gin on 95 night. Off the table now.
Tonight Billy Strings is playing the Civic Center in Portland, the site of 12/30/93. I can only say because people wearing his merch are everywhere.

Elton John's "Honky Cat" is the first that comes to mind. The swing, the rhythm. I was obsessed with the imagery despite not knowing the slang for "honky" or "cat." And the jamming between the piano and bass in the outro foreshadowed what music I'd like later in life.

Music writers trying to pinpoint the "song of the summer" by plucking something out of obscurity will never not be weird. The people choose that, and this year it's pretty clearly "Be Her", at least where I live.
When you schedule the promoted post too far in advance and forget to double-check it.
