61 years ago today, President Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law, guaranteeing health care for seniors, kids, and families with disabilities. Trump promised to always protect Medicare. This week, he broke that promise again — cutting a program that kept Rx costs down.
Medicare drug coverage premiums are expected to rise in 2027 after the Trump administration said it would end a temporary subsidy that reduced monthly premiums. It's still unclear by how much or whether all Medicare beneficiaries will see an increase.
