Today I visited the Family Fund exhibition in Parliament, which shares the experiences of families raising disabled or seriously ill children. Family Fund offers grants and practical support for individual families. If you think this support could help you, visit www.familyfund.org.uk
Over the last few years, I have met many people determined to make sure newborn babies are screened for SMA, and worked with them to see this programme start. Early detection - before symptoms show - can be life-changing. I hope this programme continues to succeed + helps families all over Scotland.
First baby identified through Scotland's SMA screening programme starts treatment
The baby was tested for the rare genetic condition, that can cause progressive muscle weakness and affect movement, breathing and swallowing, at just five days old

Visited the Lord Provost's Peace Garden yesterday, on the 81st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki. It saw Dr Hiro Shimai lead the planting of a new tree, grown from seeds of a tree that survived the bombs 81 years ago. Scotland, and the world, will be safer without nuclear weapons.
I recently met with SPT to discuss their plans that are currently being developed to operate a franchised bus system. I'm supportive of their plans and hope to work constructively with SPT+ScotGov to maximise the prospect of success. It will deliver a more strategic approach to planning bus services

It was good to have the chance to visit the Cafe D' Jaconelli exhibition in @maryhillburghhalls.bsky.social . An excellent display about a much-loved local business.
Just some of the highlights from the last week. From chatting with many voters, it's clear they value SNP policies which help families. From the Scottish Child Payment, to the doubling of childcare; from ensuring a university education is free to making sure Scotland maintains free prescriptions.
Here is what the SNP announced this weekend: * Support for first-time home buyers * Expanding Childcare * Doubling the number of walk-in GP centres * £10m to help Glasgow following last week's fire Read more at https://www.bob.scot/conference/

I welcome the fact the first walk-in GP service has now opened. Such a service in the northwest of Glasgow could make a real difference in easing pressures and improving people’s experience. As such, I have asked the ScotGovt if they will consider such a service locally More: https://www.bob.scot/GP
Today in Parliament, I called for reform of Local Housing Allowance (LHA). LHA pays the rent in the private rented sector for low-income benefit claimants across the UK. More at: https://www.bob.scot/first-ministers-questions-local-housing-allowance/
I am pleased that the Scottish Government has confirmed that Scotrail fares will be frozen for the financial year 2026-27. This is further good news following the permanent abolition of peak rail fares. https://www.gov.scot/news/scotrail-fares-frozen-for-12-months/

So the 2-child cap is finally to be scrapped. I highlighted in Parliament the issues caused by this appalling policy back in my 2023 Members' Debate. It shouldn't have taken Labour so long to do the right thing. However, I take nothing at face value and await full details. t.co/t7Cu5AGaTP

Last week, I hosted a parliamentary roundtable event with MSPs + Govt officials to discuss the impressive contribution Glasgow Kelvin College makes to learners and our city economy. We found opportunities to support the College, to build on their current success. I will pursue this with the ScotGov
