Unsolicited writing advice, no. 47: Here's an experiment to try: Take a paragraph of your WIP. Highlight the most important word in each sentence. Now try rewriting with the important words at the very end of the sentences. Look at the difference it makes each way, and the way it affects emphasis.

Clean and regularly refilled water bowls and bee and butterfly baths are essential in this hot weather. Remember your garden friends as the drought continues. I've been out tonight to pour water on our smelly drain cover. Almost immediately bees and wasps were drinking at it, so things must be bad

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 7825: Even if you're hoping for publication, not everything you write has to be for others. Practice writing for yourself: it takes off the pressure, and may lead to unexpected discoveries...

Good for you! I asked my publisher not to use any Daily Mail quotes in my metadata or anywhere else and, for later books, got them not to send for a review at all. I'm glad they were respectful of my wishes.
