New BBS Commentary! If half of all children under 5 live in Asia and a third in Africa, then developmental science has only scratched the surface in understanding how children grow up. In addition to broadening diversity, we need to embrace the variability within each culture, family to family.

Many things have to go right in order for babies to learn to talk. Recent research highlights the role of something that might come as a surprise: heart rate.
