George Garvin Brown was born this day in 1846. In 1870, he created Old Forester, the first bottled bourbon. The Brown family continues to be one of the top producers of bourbon. Each year Brown-Forman releases a new batch of "Birthday Bourbon" to celebrate the its founder.

Best way to do a tasting is with friends! Glad I have a neighbor that does these with me. This tasting was all about Penelope - only two samples this time, but a good brand for sure! I’ll definitely consider more of their products after this.

Today’s #WhiskeyScience post is all about the COLOR of bourbon (and other whiskeys too, I guess 😉) Bourbon gets its color from the barrel during aging. But WHAT is it, exactly, that imparts that heavenly amber hue? 🥃 I was curious, so I went and dug for the answer. Time for a 🧵

Anyone got a good picture of bourbon being dumped out of the barrel, or someone filling a glass with a thief? I’m working on a thread and I’d rather use a good photo and attribute it than try to use AI or a stock photo somewhere.

The Kentucky Artisan Tasting Lounge was a total blast. Marshall and Alexis were so much fun to talk with! Marshall gave me some great insight to the “mad scientist” feel of distilling - I think I’m gonna have to go back soon to talk more with him. Definite recommend for bourbon trail trips!
