Left FAANG to build open source tools. No funding, bootstrapping my way forward. Building tools around event-driven architectures and distributed systems. 👨🏼‍💻 eventcatalog.dev ✍🏻 Learn EDA through my visuals http://eda-visuals.boyney.io

A new version of the EventCatalog SDK is now out. The new Graph functions allow you to get your architecture documentation back as a graph. Architecture documentation isn't just static pages, it's a graph of information. EventCatalog let's you document your architecture this way.

Been working on pulling real-time data into EventCatalog You can now create custom components, that can pull/sync information from anywhere. Here I pull data from my observability platform and render them into my docs All free and open source 🙌

Playing with a new idea, a canvas that will let you import full or resources from OpenAPI/AsyncAPI into a diagraming tool for modelling, exploring and visualisation of architectures. Pretty fun so far 🤩

I've been playing with a slack bot integration with EventCatalog MCP server, which lets you ask questions about your architecture directly in slack. Ask about your domains, schemas, runtime metrics, ownership, on call folks... anything you want. Also bring your own model + tools Pretty fun!

I added a thing 🙌 You can now define messages at a domain level (not just service level) in EventCatalog. This let's you define domain events, and define how your domains interact with each other, and let your services be implementation details of that. Some users have been asking. Hope it helps

I added a small quality of life improvement to EventCatalog. You can now reference any resource using bracket syntax (e.g [[service|OrderService]]), to get this nice hover effect.

I added diagrams as a new resource type to EventCatalog. Bring any diagram you want to EventCatalog (Miro, IcePanel, Mermaid, PlantUML, etc) and assign them to domains, services and messages.... All diagrams can be versioned and compared too. Also you can copy diagrams to clipboards for LLMS.

What happens what you change the contract of your event? Who is going to be impacted? Who should be notified?... this can be answered with EventCatalog 🥹 Soon you will be able to change any schema (JSON, Avro, Proto, from any registry too) in your IDE and ask who will be impacted by this change....

Diagrams as a first class citizen to EventCatalog? Versioned? Comparison? I think there could be value here... Here is a quick demo of some mermaid and plantuml diagrams, versioned, assigned to a domain, and compared against each other 👇

Recently I have a few thoughts about EventStorming. Can we get more value from it's output? I always loved the idea of taking an image of a EventStorm and generating an EventCatalog.... Here is what I found, with a working example, if anyone is interested boyney123.substack.com/p/can-you-ge...

Can you get more value from your EventStorming workshops? I think you can....

So you finished an EventStorming session, you have 100s of post-it notes. What's next? In this blog post I explore an experiment of turning EventStorming into EventCatalog using MCP.

My next project with EventCatalog is now live ❤️ Introducing EventCatalog Studio. A design tool that focuses on architecture primitives, rather than boxes and lines. It's early days, and I can't to learn from folks and make the project better for everyone. eventcatalog.studio
