I just really love living near a city whose library has some amazing artifacts and puts them on display for free. I mean, who else will put 8 different copies of the Declaration of Independence on display in their map room? Loved the exhibits, @bpl.boston.gov.

The inside of a building with stone walls, ceiling, and floor. The focal point of the image is of a historic painting of George Washington, who is wearing beige pants, a blue jacket, red cape, and black hat. He is standing next to a cannon. There are other artifacts on tables and the wall and a man in a red jacket and blue jeans is looking at them on the left side of the image.A framed and matted copy of the Declaration of Independence floats inside a large vertical exhibit case. To the right of the framed copy is a beige note with black text on it reading: this is the only surviving copy.

BPL's newest exhibition "Declarations: Printing a New Nation" opens today, April 11! For the first time ever, the BPL's 8 rare printings of the Declaration will be displayed together, inviting visitors to step into a moment when American independence, and the nation itself, was still taking shape.
