Only seen 14 sp. out of Sussex recording area. With Thursday’s Dungeness trip adds (+8 WwBT, Black Tern, L. Stint, Curlew Sand, Ruff, Knot, Whinchat, Kingfisher!) Birdtrack tells me I’m now on 194 Uk year list. 180 Sussex recording area, 169 W.Sussex (inc. TD, G Oriole, Quail, Gropper heard only)

In Beaumaris, Anglesey for a few days. This is the Menai Straits looking south to Snowdonia and Great Orme Head. Didn’t have my bins or camera so iPhone shots only showing spectacular scenery. This tight flock of about 20 feeding Goosander at dusk yesterday.
An adult male Honey Buzzard came and landed on our Osprey nest briefly this afternoon, digging in the nest searching for a potential wasp or bees nest?! @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social

River Adur valley near Dacre Gardens/ St. Botolph’s: Local STONE CURLEW I chanced on at 10.30 yesterday morning whilst scanning for Wheatear and Whinchat. Cooler conditions in the evening @sussexornitholo.bsky.social
Delighted to find a Stone Curlew this morning in a local field whilst looking for Whinchat. Serious heat haze this morning but cooler this evening when the bird was more active and came closer.
The strong winds have broken a branch from our Beech tree. But look at the heavy crop of Beech mast! A much better year than normal. So hopefully plenty of Chaffinches and maybe some Brambling to look forward to, this coming winter.
2 Common Sandpipers on beach between Lancing Yacht Club and Widewater. Flushed by dogwalker. Flew off west. And 2 Sand Martins flying west at same location are both a small signal as the season moves slowly towards Autumn.
Tried a seawatch off St. Justinian’s headland, Pembrokeshire looking to the north west and beyond Ramsey Island on Friday evening. A continuous stream of Manx Shearwater at dusk passing at 250/min. That’s 15,000+ an hour! … an amazing spectacle.

Yesterday,on the return journey from Sea Palling, Norfolk, stopped off at Abberton Reservoir, Colchester, Essex. Refound the Little Gull at 18.15, viewing from the screen to SE of Layer Rd. A Great Site showing Spoonbill (5), Yellow Wagtail, Hobby, Great Egret (2), Marsh Harrier (m), Ruddy Shelduck
A trip further afield to Norfolk & Essex yesterday. At Hempstead Marshes, Sea Palling, ‘scope views of the long-staying Black-winged Kite perched on wires, in flight and preening through the heat haze at 09.45. And later refound in bushes from a different vantage point around midday. Records.
