In late 2023, the Society spent a day with Hertfordshire’s historians. We saw the quality, creativity and distinctiveness of teaching, research and engagement. We were told by a (now departed) senior manager that History was ‘a portfolio the university will guard very carefully’. bit.ly/4hLediN

The problem of manipulation is on the table. Stealing the current books, buying the old books, and cooperating with large archives and collections and libraries, like in Oxford, is part of the same agenda. It is about controlling the information of the future. That’s what is really on the table.

Geolocated footage by the independent Russian outlet ASTRA showed two columns of black smoke rising from the refinery. Local residents reported hearing explosions and seeing drones over the city.

also weird but necessary sidebar to the uefa/fifa drama. in UK/International English, 'tabling' something means proposing it. so being 'on the table' means it is actively being considered. for some weird reason US English reverses the meaning. Uefa are talking in the UK, not US sense, here.
