Amid so much national distraction, a reminder of what government can still do: See a problem. Solve it. Make life better. California is putting free emergency albuterol in 10,000 public schools. I spoke with @gavinnewsom.bsky.social about leadership — and helping kids breathe easier.

Rapid Response for Gov Gavin Newsom and @GovPressOffice.gov.ca.gov | Willamette Alum | personal account | he/him | 🏳️🌈 bi+ | SEA + NorCal Sports! Not on here often
>> @adamkinzinger.substack.com: It's hard not to see the pattern here …. when a president spends years demanding his rivals be jailed and the cases keep arriving right on cue, the burden is on him to prove that this is about the law and not a vendetta.
>> @peterhamby.bsky.social: We know, from lots of evidence, that Trump’s Justice Department likes to go after political enemies whether there are merits to these cases or not…we know Trump tells the Justice Department to go after people he doesn’t like.
>> @briantylercohen.bsky.social: Because [Gavin Newsom] poses a threat to Trump and his movement, now the White House needs to use the tools available to it to go after him.
>> @danabrams1.bsky.social: This administration so far has not just a willingness, but an eagerness to go after President Trump's enemies.
Kyle Kulinski: Trump is on a literal crime spree. This is actual pay-to-play. Like you go down to Mar-a-Lago or have a family member go down to Mar-a-Lago, give Trump a million dollars personally. He'll pardon whoever you want. And what a surprise, he’s investigating all of his political enemies.
Kamala Harris: Whether it is the Governor of California, whether it is Tish James, whether it is journalists, [Trump] is using these agencies to implement self-indulgence on his part. Those who abuse their power and authority should be held accountable and there should be consequences.
>> @ponderingpolitics.bsky.social: Donald Trump has abused the political system and the justice system so flagrantly that I believe the default assumption should be they are lying and acting corruptly unless they prove otherwise.
>> @reallyamerican.bsky.social: This is a personal weaponization of the justice system again by the sitting president to take down an opponent.
>> @strictscrutiny.bsky.social: We have seen so many ham-handed efforts at these politically vindictive investigations and prosecutions … It just doesn't seem like Trump has at all been deterred from attempting to do more … even though many of them have gone down in flames
>> @donlemonofficial.bsky.social: This is ridiculous. If a president can direct the Justice Department towards a political opponent, that is a line that should not be crossed. Trust me, I know.
>> @podsaveamerica.crooked.com: What we know is Trump has openly called on his AG to go after his enemies. He just tried to install a man with no national security experience as the DNI solely because he has shown a creativity in using his access to information to go after Trump's critics.
>> @aaronparnas.bsky.social: This is viewed as another example of the Trump administration utilizing the Justice Department to target the president's political opponents. In this case, the California Governor.
Scott MacFarlane: Attempts to weaponize or utilize the Department of Justice to go after Trump's political critics have fallen flat.
>> @jackcocchiarella.bsky.social: We have seen Donald Trump put more and more of his enemies on an official enemies list, and Gavin Newsom is the latest addition.
>> @thebulwark.com’s @samsteindc.bsky.social: These are very vindictive efforts to weaponize the Justice Department. In that context, combined with the Blanche nomination hearings coming and Blanche needing to impress Trump, you just can't remove that from the equation. That is the equation.
>> @katiephang.bsky.social: This weaponized DOJ is an atrocious, an atrocious abuse of power by convicted felon Donald Trump. It is simply a hammer in search of a nail. And of course, the only people that are targeted are whom? It's who Trump perceives as being his political enemies and opponents.
>> Carlos Eduardo Espina: Y si el gobierno realmente quisiera encontrar casos de maldad, de cosas ilegales, corrupción, etc., comenzarían buscando en la Casa Blanca, con el presidente terrible que tenemos.
>> @thewarningses.bsky.social: We all know precisely what this is. It's more revenge, more retribution. Donald Trump over and over again is using the awesome power of the federal government to abuse free people who oppose him.
>> @tnbrando.bsky.social: If you want to find corruption, look no further than Donald Trump.
WATER IN CALIFORNIA DOES NOT COME FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
Trump: "They didn't allow the water to come down from the Pacific Northwest. They routed the water into the Pacific Ocean. So we had no water there. No, he had -- I would say open up the water. Open it up to the governor, the mayor. They wouldn't do it. They wanted to protect a tiny little fish."
>> @governor.ca.gov Gavin Newsom to world leaders and billionaires at Davos: It’s time to buck up. Stop being complicit. Have a backbone. Trump will play you for fools.
It’s the “rule of Don,” not the rule of law. Trump is unhinged — and dangerous. World leaders: Stop whispering in private and caving to him in public. Stand strong. Stand united! Wake up!
Trump has tried to stoke a civil war in America It is a disgrace what he’s doing in Minneapolis. It is a disgrace what he’s doing all across America. It is a disgrace what DHS is posting It is a disgrace the white supremacy and grift the Trump admin is promoting None of this can be normalized
NEW: It took a federal judge less than 24 hours to shut down Trump’s politically motivated child care cuts in California.
California’s spirit is being tested. We face an assault on our values unlike anything we have seen in our lifetimes.
The Federal Government's credo is fear — fear of the future, fear of the stranger, fear of change. None of this is normal. In California, we are NOT silent. We are NOT hunkering down. We are NOT retreating.
