XR Tech Audio Super Awesome Fun Spatial Woohoo!
Today marks 10 years at my job. That's a pretty good run. A little bit ruined by getting the layoff email last week followed by the "congrats, the future looks great" automated anniversary email. But so it is I guess.
As an audio professional and gamer, I have feelings about "game key cards" or "dongles" or "license keys". Not a fan of online only license checks either like how NI runs an adb service in the background for some reason messing up any android dev by it enumerating as an emulator. Too many steps.
My fav modern internet format is edits of "if x game were made today" and it's literally footage of the original game just spamming voiceover hints and the main character announcing every action they do.
The doom scroll machine is bad, time to boot up the beep boops again.
Take your game's audio to 11 with DLSS5. More shimmer in the music, more crunch in the footsteps, at least 40% more spatial. Also put surveillance cameras in your bedroom and bet on sports with crypto. We need your photo ID and social for age verification.
Happy clockquinox. The few fleeting moments when the sun comes back across this room and hits the entire clock.
The warning sign was when they started putting LEDs on RAM. But now you can use AI to see what it would be like if you had LEDs on your RAM.
So I've been messing about with web audio, and I'm surprised how extensive it is. If one were to rig an interactive audio demo in web, it's also extremely accessible to anyone that you want to have check it out without needing them to install anything, you can host it and give someone a QR code.
Correction... press pots are now $10. Silly of me to assume basic IKEA home items haven't gone up 43% in a few years.
Hear me out, just brew your coffee in a $7 press pot. apnews.com/article/ces-...
Indoor snapdragons? This seed sprouted back in March I think. Look at all those new buds.
User journey #62564992 : As a consumer of food, I want to be able to simply buy cheese without involving an account or an app and not have that transaction stored in a data center with my pii and used to deliver related ads to my push notifications.
I don't even do game audio anymore really. I've barely done audio at all this year. It's all Android development and infrastructure and UX and input telemetry all day. I'd consider pivoting back, but like, in this economy? 😬 Still, the soul is hungry.
Lead: "The task is to make this thing" Me: "Ok. Which of the 8 environments we work in should I make this? Certainly the one I've just spent two months struggling to learn?" Lead: "No. This other one you know nothing about, and the code has no comments" Me: 🫤😑😣😩😫🤮
Listening to a decades old hissy tape of daft punk homework copied who knows when or how on an 80s Magnavox just feels right for some reason. Even better that whoever did it bothered writing the track list.
Happy last day of Windows 10 for those who celebrate. May your accounts forever be local and offline.
The light through that little window only completely covers this clock for a few moments of a few days of the year.
Giant Peruvian blueberry. 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin for scale. I'm 100% sure you all know how big that is.
Just put a comment in a setup script for a very specific kind of spatial audio source that says "I know this is counterintuitive, but trust me" And I feel the most engineer I have ever felt.
I don't care what anyone says, I will always think ASMR is creepy and cringe and it sounds like someone spitting in my ear and I hate it, eww.

Got things mostly synced up, still messing with some of the routing. Subharmonicon continues to be an enigma. The Korg Triton really adds that early 2000s "millennium" flavor to the mix. Wonderful sounds coming out of everything though.
