(This video contains descriptions of sexual abuse.) At 15, Ashlee Orndorff was a rising basketball star in Hawthorne, Nevada. But behind her success on the court, Orndorff says she was carrying a terrible secret: Her Amateur Athletic Union coach, Matt Williams, had been sexually abusing her.

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

In research today, I learned that the “Mohawk team” won bronze in lacrosse at the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis, technically as the second Canada team. This makes the IOC’s refusal to let the Haudenosaunee play in LA 2028 all the more frustrating- there are precedents for how to make it happen!

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

Seems like a good time for women’s national teams to reconsider their relationship to FIFA. They can forget about any development money or support for grassroots if it is just a one time 20 million dollar bribe going to their federations. Where is USSF leadership here?

There are 41 federations in Concacaf and 47 in AFC. Their sympathy with UEFA bodes poorly for Infantino’s plan to bribe federations 20 million each for selling WC to Kushner & co. Since Conmebol has only 10 voted, I expect Dominguez to do whatever will benefit him personally.

Now tell me why people need to use genAI to do stuff that many or even most people can do with some combo of practice, training, and patience. No person is an island. If there's a thing you can't or won't do, perhaps you can exchange a skill/time/money of your own with someone who can. 1/

The same playbook of “calling for fifa” to care about human rights has not worked. Just to start the cycle of “calls” will not reform FIFA. I respect the work of many activists in this space, but we have to admit that it has not forced the change we are after: www.forbes.com/sites/minkyw...

For Next FIFA World Cup, Make Human Rights The Goal

When the 2026 World Cup concludes on Sunday, US President Donald Trump will be on stage to lift the trophy—making this World Cup a new sportswashing exemplar.

This has a causal relationship with decreases in women’s writing, interviewed, and invited as analysts during this World Cup. This tournament has taken a step backwards in gender equity. No wonder the plague of sexual assaults isn’t discussed- if we can’t even have women in the room.

Commentators and FIFA are so good at avoiding any reference to the Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year. I thought as the number of games dwindled and they searched for content, some major outlet may slip up and mention it. They’ve committed to the sexist bit!
