What's fundamentally wrong with editorial management systems is they are document based. This prevents automated copyediting, formatting, and AI integration. At RJIM, working on PostgreSQL-based editorial management with minimal author friction to automate 90% of the process #research

Textbooks are so 20th century. They're: -obsolete in a year or two -passive -teach facts over reasoning Instead, you can take any content and use AI to: -generate cases that teach reasoning -organize into tracks that are pull-along and engaging -link to living docs (UpToDate) #MedEd

RJIM is now on Google Scholar 🎉🎊 We’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit journal with no mandatory APCs sometimes paid peer review Open to case reports and original research in #InternalMedicine

The interest in rjmedicine.org has been validating. Researchers are ready for a non-profit, truly open publishing ecosystem. To keep up with growth, we're now using NextJS. We'll be able to build AI integration and automation. If you're interested in crafting the ideal publishing experience, join us

We used to hand out PDFs of cases to residents… So I added open-ended questions to #MedEd Assessments. Provide the ideal answer as the instructor, and AI will grade the learners’ answers against it. Incorporated with learning streaks, leader boards, and pre-post assessment.

Scientists sued the six biggest for-profit academic publishers, alleging they colluded to enforce “publish-or-perish,” single-submission rules, unpaid peer review, and limits on sharing research. The results just came in…

How to fix scientific publishing: 1. Build GitHub for manuscript writing 2. Set up preprints and publishing as pull requests ⭐️Versioning/contributor tracking mitigate fraud ⭐️Pull requests mitigate administrative costs ⭐️Everything is open ⭐️The freemium model improves access #research #meded #medsky

I often get asked by residents and medical students where they can publish their case reports. So I built a tool where you can query over 1000 medical journals that publish CRs by cost, MEDLINE status, time to publication, specialty, etc. #meded #research #medsky www.rjmedicine.org/journal-finder

Case Report Journal Finder

Quickly surface reputable, cost-conscious journals for your clinical case report based on specialty, APC preferences, and indexing.

The top six commercial publishers are currently being sued for anti-trust violations (Uddin v. Elsevier, B.V., 1:24-cv-06409). They publish the majority of articles on PubMed. This year, we will find out the verdict. If they lose, this would have DRAMATIC effects on #research

This is the last 150 years of PubMed publications by major Publishing organizations. It started with small University and Nonprofit presses, now becoming an absolute domination by commercial publishers #research #medsky
