If it seems to you like there are fewer journalists covering Connecticut, you’re right. This week, those ranks grew thinner: Hearst CT unjustly fired a highly experienced reporter who was respected by his peers, sources and readers.
We love our jobs, and we’d like to be granted the flexibility to do them!
How can we report on our communities when we're not in them? Hearst wants many of our journalists cooped up in an office three days a week with inflexible work hours. They're forgetting that news doesn't happen in a cubicle between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Did my first stand up in about 14 years for this story about a curious case involving a West Haven church www.nhregister.com/news/article...
A CT church’s bank account was drained after a lawsuit it says it never saw
Members of the church said they didn't find out about the lawsuit until the church's bank account had been emptied.

Since we won our union election in May, Hearst has refused to bargain with us, while repeatedly violating labor law. Last week, we filed four Unfair Labor Practice charges against the company 🧵
🚨BREAKING: STRIKERS WIN! The order affirms what we’ve said all along: The PG’s lawless union-busting cannot stand. We made sure it didn’t. We’re taking back what they stole from us. We won this strike.

Hearst management continues to violate the law by changing our working conditions without bargaining. Today, employees gathered for lunch at our different offices and asked a simple question of the company: We’re ready to bargain. Why aren’t you?
Journalism is a challenging but rewarding industry. This news today is the culmination of an incredible and exhausting journey. Very proud to be a member of the Connecticut News Guild.
We recently held a union election at Hearst Connecticut Media, and we learned minutes ago that… WE WON!!! By an overwhelming vote of 68-17, our members voted to unionize as part of @newsguild.org. It’s a great day for journalism in CT! 🐳🐳🐳
On Thursday, the NLRB will count our ballots, and we’ll officially be a union. Here’s why some of our members are proud to have voted yes. 🐳🐳🐳
West Haven city officials have gathered to watch a Municipal Accountability Review Board meeting live-streamed into a City Hall conference room, expecting to be released from state oversight. Some are holding confetti cannons. Feels more like a World Cup final match than a board meeting.
It’s Election Day for the Connecticut News Guild! Ballots are being mailed out today, and there’s no question how our members are voting. 🐳🐳🐳
To be truly committed to fairness would mean to respect the results of an election.
Just days after we won a date for our union election, Hearst is again seeking to delay. They want to block us from voting and divide our unit along arbitrary lines. Please tell the company to stop obstructing and respect the results of the election. 👇 actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
The Connecticut News Guild, a union representing journalists at Hearst CT Media, has joined Bluesky, and we come bearing good news. After an eight-month wait, we have an election date! We are so excited to vote YES for the union we deserve. 🐳🐳🐳 newsguild.org/hearst-conne...

Members of the Connecticut News Guild just sent this letter to our bosses, regarding recent disciplinary practices, including firings:
Just had the most stressful half hour chase with my cat to jam a pill down his throat meant to lower his stress. Now we’re both stressed but only one of us got a pill. Can’t wait to do this nine more times.
