Today's #Friday "The End" comes from the film A MESSAGE FROM DOROTHY MAYNOR, famous soprano, on the importance of x-ray screenings for TB. Note the Cross of Lorraine symbol used for years on Christmas seals. The logos read "Christmas Seals Fight Tuberculosis" & "Tuberculosis is Preventable."
An candid view of the White House press office, news, and freedom of information from Sarah McClendon, interviewed for PERSPECTIVES in 1983 and preserved here. bmac.libs.uga.edu/Detail/objec...
There are already Blessed Fulton Sheen icons, tshirts, stained glass images, etc., for sale on Etsy, but who will be the maker who sells boxes of chalk with this television icon's image on them?
I like this: In the new portrait of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen, the artist (who?) puts chalk in his hand, because his blackboard was the main tool in his TV evangelizing. Photo of the art by @jeffreybruno.bsky.social. Screengrab of a LIFE IS WORTH LIVING episode from @brownmediaarchives.bsky.social.
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was beatified today. If you are not familiar with him, you can watch a 1952 episode of his very popular tv show, LIFE IS WORTH LIVING, on our Kaltura page: kaltura.uga.edu/media/t/1_jj...

"Thinking Machines" from a 1970 UGA circulating films catalog. Readily viewable on @avgeeks.bsky.social YT channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-3e...
Old 16mm circulating prints are not always in great condition, but this one, "Little World," about a day care center in NYC in 1958, is in stunning condition for its age. The Eastman Rev film stock looks fabulous.
The @universityofga.bsky.social was recently awarded a $743,658 NEH grant to preserve and expand access to Georgia’s colonial heritage. The three-year project will digitize more than 12,000 pages of documents, preserve archeological collections, and develop educational resources. buff.ly/u7GPxOt

For all of film’s renewed presence at the center of Hollywood, every high-quality color reel for shooting and projecting is manufactured in one place. https://loom.ly/PnWFvB8
Nice Kin-O-Lux box and reel. The July 5 1946 date is a "process by" date and, judging by the wartime mostly-cardboard reel, the film was likely shot around 1944.
Another of the dreaded group of film treatments of the past.
“The Hollywood Ten” (1950) This short film was a direct appeal to the American people from the Hollywood Ten, writers and filmmakers who were imprisoned and blacklisted for refusing to answer questions about their alleged ties to the Communist Party. New on our YouTube channel: youtu.be/CCi-pYyKiFw

It's the twin set of the film archives world.
Don't see much unslit 8mm in the archives.
Here's a new-to-me "china girl" from a film on the bench now. She shows up at 5:55 in to Julie Buck's GIRLS ON FILM that's playing inside this article: www.atlasobscura.com/articles/the...
16mm circulating print. A long time between cleanings.
This is a very frightening prospect for truth telling now and into the future.
In addition to anticipated censorship and increased licensing fees, there is widespread concern over access to the CNN archives. https://loom.ly/Y3RDwS4
