This rise in profits is nothing to do with them investing in infrastructure or doing anything smarter, it's purely to do with Trump's illegal war in Iran. Why should they profit from that while the rest of us suffer?

BP quarterly profits up from $2.5bn to $5.73bn as Iran war sends oil prices soaring. Shell doubled its net profit to almost $10bn. High bills fuelling poverty and misery for households and businesses. Boon for execs and shareholders. Must levy 100% windfall tax on oil, gas, energy companies.

Absolutely agree with this. Overspending due to dealing with the impacts of climate breakdown must not lead to budgetary constraints for future years.

Very disappointing from the new Prime Minister, very much sounding like the previous PM. These are among the world’s most vulnerable and desparate people. They need safe routes and humanity from responsible politicians, not grandstanding. This isn’t doing politics differently.

This is an excellent thread. The same dangerous far-right ethno-nationalists, who want to deport your friends and neighbours also want to lock up the experts who prevented more people from dying in a pandemic. We must defend science robustly to save lives and try to restore public trust.
