The thing about writing any kind of near-future sci-fi or present-day thriller is that you are limited in how much you can make shit up and instead are sent down maddening rabbit holes of research, like eg "oh I should write up the ICD codes for how this guy died"
This is sick. When this is ready for production use someone needs to host a jam for Ink games meant to be played like this!

I've tracked down the perf issues I've had on Niri on an Nvidia machine: when not doing anything taxing (ie, not moving around between windows/workspaces) for a while, the GPU downclocks and it doesn't seem to clock up in time to render the animation/motion when I do switch windows.

Both of these games are classics but QuadCow is one of the best immersive sims of all time, an absolute delight of a game.

I really do think you should learn to use the Linux command line.
I really do think you should learn to use the Linux (or Mac, I suppose) command line if you can find the time at all. It is, genuinely, a dramatically more empowering way to use your computer than the alternative, and it will enable to think about your computer as a tool in ways that are completely different. So much of what's wrong with "computing", in general, stems from systematic user disempowerment... I think most people my age are cognizant of the harms of young people today not being exposed to even the most basic underlying concepts like the existence of the file system as an independent thing from siloed apps. But a lot of us never took that step backwards of considering the ways in which graphical user interfaces are disempowering. The thing about terminal interfaces is that by nature they must expose _every_ affordance; if something can be done within the system, then it must be doable by a user from the terminal. And those affordances talk to each other, can be automated and connected in ways that go significantly beyond simply being able to toggle something or do something. There's just such a wealth of useful tools (in the Linux world, at least) that exist as CLI applications. `magick` is just always going to be better than any graphical utility for doing stuff like converting a png into a jpeg; `rg` is always going to be _the_ best way to search a bunch of files for a snippet of text. Becoming comfortable with it will eventually give you avenues to make almost any task you do on the computer better.

Ultimately if you run a social media website I'd suggest perhaps not reinforcing an ongoing sense that you have disdain for your actual userbase rather than going "nah dogg those people mean nothing to me"

Obviously nearly nobody knows how to run a social media platform but when you lead with "yes we want that to change" to that question what you're communicating in that moment is more or less "yes we want more nazis on the site"

Honestly I think the best time for watching tv in my life was *before* streaming services dropping entire shows at once and binge-watching but *after* I stopped watching live cable/OTA television and was instead torrenting everything.
Brendel@brendelbored.bsky.social · 3d agoIt’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
It very much feels like the premise of Verse is Epic thinking that no one is ever going to really write any code in Verse, LLMs will, and therefore prompting LLMs be the way non-technical people get things done in U6 (rather than using Blueprints). But if this is the case, why create Verse?
