Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

Disability is a political hot topic and there's fake information being spread. So we've produced this handy infographic showing how many disabled people there really are in England & Wales. This is free to share to combat false narratives around disabled people. A thread 🧵

A BuDS infographic headed "How Many Disabled People Are There? (England & Wales)". There are three overlapping coloured circles with labels of the same colour. In the centre of the circles is a picture of a wheelchair-user with his arms spread wide as if in welcome or show. The biggest yellow circle is labelled “People self-identifying as disabled to some extent in the 2021 Census: 10.5 million”. The middle-sized teal green circle is labelled “Disabled people meeting Equality Act definition: 6.6 million (approx.)”. The smallest dull orange circle is labelled “Disabled people receiving PIP: 4 million”.

Thanks to @buds-disability.bsky.social for their amazing hard work on keeping us all updated. Covid is rising rapidly in California so I think the window on lower cases in the UK will inevitably close in the Autumn. So the best time to do essential things, if you are cev/cv, safely of course is now🧵

👎DISCREDITED ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL RETURNS, AMIDST PREDICTIONS OF DEFEAT Ignoring pleas from fellow MPs and warnings from Royal Colleges & disability and domestic abuse charities, Lauren Edwards has defied Andy Burnham’s concerns by reintroducing the assisted suicide Bill.🧵 1/

Her CV shows no specialist education or experience in either the clinical or legal aspects of this proposed legislation, nor of any prior interest in or knowledge of aspects of decision-making in later life, and the limits of individual autonomy many people have at that stage in their lives

It turns out that Lauren Edwards, the MP who wants suicide to be available on the NHS for disabled people, has used unacceptable disability slurs in the past. Is this why she hasn't consulted any of the disabled-led organisations who unanimously oppose this Bill?

A news reports about Lauren Edwards using the disablist slur 'retards' on Twitter in 2009. She says she now deeply regrets it.
