About ten years ago, after constantly losing my sunglasses, I bought an expensive pair thinking that it would motivate me to look after them. And it did, I still have them! And then I thought, ooh, buying expensive sunglasses is fun, and I bought two more pairs. And now I've spent way more money.

The amount of harm that's been done by sensible moderates convincing themselves it's a little bit cool and naughty - or maybe even intellectually virtuous, stepping outside the bubble - to give credence to far-right politics is honestly unfathomable.
