The baby blues are back & better than ever! This month, Academy scientists, partners, and volunteers released dozens of silvery blue butterflies (Glaucopsyche lygdamus) in the Presidio, as part of ongoing efforts to restore ecosystem function & support butterfly populations in the Bay Area.

Did you know that pollinators are responsible for one out of every three bites of food you eat? If that wasn’t enough, pollinating bats are the reason you can drink tequila 🤯

This #TransDayOfVisibility, we’re highlighting our favorite queer ecology reads. These books, essays, and memoirs break down binaries and explore the expansiveness of gender & identity in nature.

🦋🦋 BIG BLUE BUTTERFLIES JUST DROPPED! 🦋🦋 Come to the Rainforest in the next week to walk through a cloud of irridescent, fluttering blue morpho butterflies (Morpho peleides). Our biologists recently released 150 of these butterflies, bringing extra vibrance to the dome.
