Walked past a church whose bells were tolling 6pm, and there was a priest standing in the open doorway, scanning the nearby intersection and looking for all the like the host of a struggling open mic. The next thing out of his mouth would be “I guess that’s it then. Let’s get started!”

- Berlin (here): “daft” performance projects welcome (even at foreigners’ office) - Copenhagen: I appreciate their commitment to bikes - Helsinki: beautiful, clean, and not understanding the language makes it an adventure. - Montreal: poutine and parks - Barcelona: the seafood and sidewalk tapas

QUESTION: What are your FIVE favourite cities anywhere in the world? Bonus points for persuasive explanations why your choices are “right.” Mine (in no order) are: Paris Barcelona New York Montreal Vancouver

The casual family zoom call had slid off into discussion about corruption and cost of fuel and the US administration, when my liberal Mormon brother popped out with, “They need to do one thing: Nuremberg trials. They won’t, but they need to.” I swear it felt like the matrix was glitching.

Tonight’s dinner experiment: kimchi tuna melt, with garlic mayo to fry on, Swiss cheese, homemade dill pickles, with extra homemade kimchi. The vegan tuna mix got treated w mayo, kimchi, green onions, celery, sesame oil, and a glug of kimchi juice. Holy Mary, mother of God, this shit is the shit.

A tuna melt cut in half with a bunch of kimchi on top, three pickle spears, and a side of potato chips, on a white plate and pink placemat.

This recipe says “cool completely“ after both baking and glazing. That will add at least an hour. Cook time should mean until the dish is ready to be eaten. I just wanna eat the damn blondies!

Screenshot of the short description of a lying liar recipe:

These lemon brownies or lemon blondies are fresh and tangy lemon cookie bars topped with a homemade lemon glaze that you will not be able to get enough of.

There was a chant at the end of the dems abroad protest here in Berlin “show me what ____ looks like, this is what ____ looks like”, you know the one. And the leader shouted out “show me what a patriot looks like” and I just blew my whistle because I don’t think I can say those words. I ain’t that.

Late to the party, but holy HELL, I loved Project Hail Mary! It’s one of the best sci-fi movies I’ve seen in a long time, with just the right vibe for me: problem-solving, real character- and relationship building, layers of optimism. And visually it’s so beautiful! Amaze, amaze, amaze!

It’s a big public celebration this weekend in Finland, everyone gets to wear their graduation hats and drink hard. And I, a performer who has to be out in crowds for my job, am a little afraid of going out on the streets. I still occasionally surprise myself with my own boundaries!

Today at the airport I was feeling miserable—had to check my carry-on and I couldn’t remember where I put my admin notebook, so I was low-key panicking. I decided to combat the mood by complimenting people on their outfits, and oh man, I forgot how satisfying that is! People‘s faces just light up.

I think the last time I was at a really big protest was 35 years ago and we had to dodge half-full beer cans thrown from passing trucks. It was an anti-war protest in Eugene, Oregon. Crap, that was a long time ago. This stuff needs to stop.

1 1/2 days between tours, and thankfully one of those days is grocery day. At the store with UK Muse, I saw as usual a big box underneath the place where the kohlrabi, filling up with the green leaves that no one wants to take.

A big bowl full of raw long stem greens on a kitchen tableA white plate with braised (or “smothered”) greens on the left side and a heap serving of au gratin potatoes on the right side

This place is admirably stepping up to the spot that Twitter used to fill in my social media use patterns. After major events, it is so full of reportage almost immediately that I don’t have to dig very far to find out what happened while I was doing a show. Furthermore, ICE must be destroyed.

Staying up all night at Riga Airport so I can catch an early bus back to Vilnius because the flight was diverted because smuggling balloons with cigarettes coming from Belorus triggered closure of the Vilnius airport airspace, Ask Me Anything except wtf decade am I in.

Today was my last deep-dive day of cooking for the next couple of months at least. Came out the other side with enough leftovers and cookies that I don’t have to buy terrible train station sandwiches for my trip to CPH tomorrow. Success! (PS smut slam there on Tues, tell your people!)

I’m a registered dem, and have done phone banking for Democrats Abroad in the past 6 years, but I don’t think in good conscience I can do that anymore. Considering starting the DDA: Disillusioned Democrats Abroad. Maybe we body-double for an email-writing party. I don’t know. Open to suggestions!
