That time I made a goth fish in a jaunty hat, by #upcycling #plasticpollution and #ghostgear. This was part of a flotsam weaving workshop with @joatherton.bsky.social while we were celebrating the arrival of the #eXXpedition Round Britain crew in London.

‘Ghost’

The ghost net is light blue / turquoise, small pieces arranged in a pattern to make the shape of a whale tail coming out of the water. On a painted blue background of simplified waves, with a gradient from light to darker. Being exhibited, displayed on light coloured masonry.

When fishing nets are discarded at sea, they go right on doing what they are designed to do.
Abandoned nets, known as ghost nets, can continue ‘fishing’ for decades, trapping, injuring or

Candy Medusa is an artist, illustrator, marine biologist and loudmouth, constantly confused
as to why artists' statements are supposed to be in the third person. Specialising in digital
media, pen and ink, mixed media and upcycling, she draws much of her inspiration from
nature and is passionate about the environment. She mostly makes art between midnight
and 4am when the kids are asleep.
Candy has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally, including with the Royal Society
of Marine Artists at Mall Galleries in London, and with Creative Action Network in America
and Bahrain. She was also resident artist aboard the Sea Dragon in the Caribbean.
Candy is the founder of the eXXhibition project, raising awareness of plastic pollution,
organising beach cleans and workshops, and upcycling beach litter into art.
