CardGames.io is a game site focused on classic card and board games. Our goal is to make great versions of the games you already know and love in real life, and waste a few of your minutes while waiting in line somewhere.

I have a new hobby: it involves watching the Google Play robot automatically testing our app by aimlessly clicking around, failing to move checker pieces around, opening ads, and sometimes managing to play a single card before swapping to a new game.

Typicially in Iceland the 2nd of January sees many stores closed or with reduced hours due to inventory counting. Here at Cardgames 2nd of January is spent catching up on unread emails that piled up over the holidays. Happy new years!

Trying to learn American Standard bidding over the last few weeks I have a newfound respect for #Bridge players. My brain - and Bill's - has started to smoke more than a little: a thousand rules to know who bids what and why, all that need to be boiled down into something the robots can understand!

Bill and the gang have been playing hundreds of online games of #Canasta today, and with each game completed and each bug found I get more and more confident that the system works. Hopefully multiplayer Canasta will release later this week!

Bill's hard at work moving some servers around, and while he's promised to be very careful there's always something that goes wrong. You can expect that cardgames.io might temporarily go down intermittently today while we finish our migrations.

Updating our IOS app: 1. Update pods 2. That fails, update Xcode 3. that fails, update MacOs 4. that fails, clear out the bin 5. Wait 30 minutes 6. go have lunch 7. Restore all your wallpapers 8. Update Xcode 9. Wait for all the Xcode supports 11. Hit a compile error 12. Give up and go home

This week on Facebook, multiple spam bots sent me a message saying that our page is being deleted for various silly reasons Previously at least the bots had the decency to name themselves "Meta Support" or "Account Security Agent", at this point they've just fully given up.

Over the last 30 days, over seven centuries of human attention got spent playing our games, split over millions of ~15 minute sessions. I need not tell y'all, but that is a lot of Solitaire.

It only took 11 years, but face-down cards now automatically flip themselves face-up when playing solitaire. This daring code change took me all of ten minutes, a truly Herculean effort.

I pretend to be all smart and authoritative when talking about cardgames, but in reality I routinely double and triple check the rules of a game before answering the simplest of questions about them. We have 40+ games, I'll be damned if I remember the minutia of every rule.

Today I received an email where a person claimed to have played our game for 20 years. It was slightly undercut by the fact that the game in question was only released 10 years ago, but what's a decade between friends?

It's back! It's spoOoOoOky season once more. By popular demand, the halloween theme on Cardgames.io has been extended to last the full week before All Hallows Eve, from the 24th and to the 31st. Enjoy your mummies, hiding bats, and flying witches! Who's up for a game of Spades?

Some of our users noted that when using our app offline not all graphics loaded. This was a mystery, as our build script is supposed to replace all CDN links with the app storage Today I discovered a typo that caused said script to ignore CSS files, and the numerous links contained therein.

Spent an unjustifiably long time fiddling with our build pipeline because I wanted to add a single package that wasn't playing nice with the rest of the system. All the package does is create a handful of fireworks one day a year. Priorities.
