13 years ago today, I went for a bike ride that almost killed me. I turned my head, tore my carotid, and suffered a stroke. I am insanely lucky to have recovered. And blessed to still be me. So today I ride again. Because I still can. #strokeawareness #family #everything

And they say public transit infrastructure can’t inspire. Pfft. Who are they, anyway? #toronto #eglinton #lrt #architecture #shadows
We meet all sorts of friendly folks when we venture into the backyard. Like this lovely green grasshopper who decided to hang out on our BBQ the other day. I’m having trouble coming up with a name for her, though. Thoughts? #ldnont #canada #bugslife #green #grasshopper #stilllife
The plan was to wake up with the sun, then ride. But there was no sun. Just thick clouds and the looming threat of thunderstorms. I rode, anyway, and pointed the bike toward new roads, unsure what I’d find along the way. #ldnont #middlesex #canada #cycling #justride
There is always more than one way to look at the sky. Come to think of it, there’s always more than one way to look at just about anything. Anyone, too. #ldnont #architecture #reflective #bluesky #cloudspotting
Our youngest son, Noah, is limitlessly kind, whip smart, incredibly funny, and the best uncle on the planet. He’s loved beyond measure, and we’re so proud of the remarkable human he’s grown into. And today he’s 26. #LiveLaughLevy #birthday #life #parenthood #family #everything
Mother Nature decided she couldn’t end the day without a bit of a show in the skies. Every night, she spins new stories high above. And last night, this is the story she spun. We were lucky to witness it. #ldnont #sunset #cloudspotting #fanshawe #shotoniphone
The Snowbirds are flying out their final season in their soon-to-be retired CT-114 Tutor aircraft before standing down for a few years. I’m going to miss the jets. Apparently so will he. #airshowlondon #ldnont #canada #aviationphotography #planespotting
In the middle of a long road trip between here and there, we stop time to remember an otherwise forgettable hotel room bedside lamp. Weird? Of course. But nothing is forgettable. And moments that matter shouldn’t just be allowed to slip away. #wawa #canada #hotel #stilllife #throwback
Time hasn’t been kind to this leaf. And if I had to guess, bugs and parasites have had their way with it, too. Yet it still stops me in my tracks and makes me ponder the fragility of life - and the fact that most of us would simply look away. #ldnont #medway #backlit #stilllife
They’re shooting up Jewish-owned businesses in Canada again. And yet again, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow issues a tepid comment that reeks of indifference and contempt. So don’t mind while I post a trivial still-life pic. It’s how Jews cope. At least this Jew. #antisemitism #enough
The view from the office this morning was particularly inspiring. #ldnont #middlesexcounty #canada #cycling #justride
Far below four lanes of high-speed traffic, the river valley carves its way under the concrete, ignored by a city seemingly intent on paving over the green. Sometimes we need timely reminders of just how much we need places like this. #ldnont #canada #medway #gameoftones #landscapephotography
Grocery stores may be places of expensive frustration these days, but they still seem to have tiny pockets of wonder sticking out from the deepest corners of the vegetable aisle. All we have to do is look for them. #ldnont #canada #sobeys #fruitography #stilllife
On a sunny, otherwise quiet morning beside the rail crossing, a train inserts itself in between here and where we all need to go. I’d like to think the universe is reminding us to slow down and take in the view. #ldnont #canada #train #perspective #shotoniphone
An AI agent from #OpenAI escapes containment during a security test, hops onto the internet, and attacks systems owned by #HuggingFace. It's not science-fiction: it happened last week, and I'm talking to #CBCradio stations across Canada this aft to explain why we should be worried.
Wherever you are, cast a giant shadow. That is all. #sunnyislesbeach #florida #sunrise #landscapephotography #throwback
After the smoke cleared out, and before the storms moved in, the heavens decided to put on a bit of a show. May those touched by fire soon be touched by the light of the healing skies. #ldnont #sunset #cloudspotting #optimistpark #shotoniphone
In the middle of a crowded Costco packed with distracted and rude customers, a single employee decides to pop a plastic Elmo on her checkout display. There’s goodness out there. We just have to look for it in the spots we least expect. #ldnont #canada #elmo #muppet #stilllife
It’s been a while since we last had haiku time. So let’s resolve that, shall we? Here we go: I have seen the sign. It clearly has some issues. Who am I to judge? Thank you for attending my poetic TED Talk (™). #ldnont #canada #retail #apocalypse
Some scenes play out at our feet. Crafted with rulers, sharp enough to leave a mark. Bathed in deep shadows and brilliant light. Not the kind of images most photographers generally capture. But we’re not most photographers, are we? #niagara #notl #canada #throwback #monochrome
On a cold, damp, grey afternoon, I want to imagine I’ve stumbled across the avian equivalent of a timeless love story on this shadowy edge of a dusty downtown sidewalk. Because we all need an excuse to be inspired. #toronto #canada #streetphotography
Deepest centre field spends most of the game ignored by fans focusing on the other end of the ballpark. But every once in a while, excitement happens here. Which explains why I stare into the emptiness and wait for something to happen. #toronto #canada #bluejays #rogerscentre #skydome
I met Eloise at the city dump as she patiently waited for the front end loader to finish packing down her mid-afternoon snack. I suspect she thought I wanted a part of her meal, which might explain the bit of a stink-eye she threw my way. #dryden #canada #eagle #throwback
The sky is telling stories again. Of what isn’t necessarily relevant. Just that it is. So we open our eyes a little wider. Because this particular story, of this particular moment, will never be told again. #ldnont #architecture #reflective #bluesky #cloudspotting
The weather people say that today will be hot and icky. So please don’t mind if I pull a frozen winter scene out of the archives. Because sometimes we need little reminders of nature’s ability to paint the planet with ice and wonder. #ldnont #onstorm #winter #bokeh #monochrome
This abandoned paint store, once a local source of colour, now barely holds onto what little colour is left. The lights of passing cars shine through filthy windows, lighting up the dusty concrete. One wonders what might happen here next. #montreal #cotestluc #canada #reflective #throwback
I’ll remember this photo because as I took it, I almost stumbled over a middle-aged woman injecting herself in the shadows between a crumbling brick wall and a thick stand of weeds. I felt the need to apologize. And cry. The why of this crisis will never make sense. #ldnont
