Montréal: no Sinner, no Alcaraz and no Djokovic. Also losing Shapovalov and Diallo by retirements. And now losing Auger-Aliassime as he has withdrawn due to a back injury. Absolute nightmare and basically for the second year in a row. And it could totally be tennis new normal…

I also hope he talks to a professional. Not a sports psychologist, just a psychologist. Draper has often said he’s someone who just can’t have a feeling of not moving forward, so this year must be his version of a mental hell. Well, actually having Andy around could be greatest timing here…

Also not sure of the choice of not taking a long enough break to get a protected ranking. He gained nothing by playing. Mentally, it seems way too much.

After the cruel impact of changes to the skilled worker visa scheme, there’s another hostile action from the Home Office, this time directed at EU citizens granted right to remain after Brexit. These life shattering letters disrupt peoples’ lives built in the UK and are are utterly shameful.

He’d been practicing here and looking good, so that’s a big blow for him. It’s tough for the tournament, too, since they’d had lots of other high-profile wild card requests for that spot.
I’m told it’s not a trial and that the plan is to end the season together.

Loïs Boisson, who started her 2026 season in Madrid in April due to a right arm injury, won’t defend her Hamburg title: She injured left knee in a fall at the end of match vs Rybakina at Wimbledon. Same knee that took her a year (ACL in 2024) before her incredible semifinals run at RG last year.

I was on that court watching that match. Was delayed for like four hours so 70% of that crowd was drunk. It was wild. It was Djokovic-Federer, electricity everywhere in the air. And she didn’t miss one call. Not a single one. Was proved right by hawk eye each freaking time. It was unreal.

Jannik Sinner is becoming the king of bouncing back. Didn’t get his Career Slam in Paris, but gets his second Wimbledon title. Very timely here for many reasons. After the AO and RG losses, that final mattered like wow to avoid doubts to creep in.
Djokovic’s storyline remains at top of Grand Slam discussion. It’s the golden burden of that generation: nobody believes they can’t win. What if Wimbledon had brought everyone back to earth? Or what if it gave more reasons to believe in the impossible? tennissweetspot.substack.com/p/it-drives-...
