Carson City recent arrests: Pair booked for alleged drug trafficking, child abuse or neglect

Two were arrested Friday for alleged felony drug offenses including trafficking after more than 300 grams of methamphetamine was located following a traffic stop, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. The two were also booked for alleged felony child abuse/neglect as a juvenile was in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Carson Now is withholding the name of the suspects to protect the identity of the juvenile.

Thirteen years after twins’ first grad ceremony at WNC, they’ll do it again

For Peter and Chloe Woodbury, graduating from Western Nevada College is more than a milestone — it’s a full-circle moment more than a decade in the making. On Monday, the Carson High School twins will walk across the stage as Western Nevada College graduates as part of the institution’s record-setting Jump Start commencement class. Thirteen years earlier, they participated in a much smaller graduation on campus after completing the pre-kindergarten program at WNC’s Child Development Center.

Conditions prompt Carson City Fire Department cancellation of spring open burning

Due to weather and accelerated fire conditions, open burning is canceled as of May 13, 2026, the Carson City Fire Department announced. All open burning is prohibited in the consolidated municipality of Carson City. The open burn period for permit holders began April 6 and was to continue until May 19. For additional questions or concerns, call CCFD at (775) 887-2210. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

New public art project highlights Tuesday Carson City Rotary Club meeting

Northern Nevada gardens and backyards: Controlling insects with systemic insecticides

Last week I wrote about soft versus armored scale insects. Soft scales exude honeydew, are protected by ants and can be controlled by systemic insecticides, some of which have the active ingredient imidacloprid. Armored scales do not emit honeydew and are not managed by an imidacloprid insecticide. JoAnne Skelly Imidacloprid is a systemic neonicotinoid insecticide that is designed to kill piercing/sucking insects via damage to their nervous system.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office investigates ‘swatting’ call at Airport Road apartment

Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a "swatting" call that happened Sunday morning that sent sheriff's deputies to an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Airport Road. Dispatch was contacted at around 10:05 a.m. by a man who said he had shot his roommate at his Airport Road apartment and was threatening to shoot himself. Carson City Sheriff's Office investigated as the person on the phone made erratic statements about where he shot a person.

Cool day doesn’t stop the heat at 44th Chili on the Comstock in Virginia City

While northern Nevada temperatures were on the cool side Saturday, the day sizzled in Virginia City at the 44th annual Chili on the Comstock as tasters blazed through the historic downtown area to sample hot, mild and spicy concoctions made by some of the best chili chefs in the west. Chili samplers also took part in a craft beer tour and watched ‘The Great Fire-Hot Chili Pepper Challenge,’ all the while shopping along Virginia City’s famed C Street.

Exciting weekend of high level soccer competition in Carson City at Wild West Shootout

This weekend come out to Pete Livermore Sports Complex in Carson City to watch one of the oldest soccer tournaments in Northern Nevada that has grown into a premier futbol inter-state tournament. Started just for the region, it has grown every year. Hosted by Carson Futbol Club, the Wild West Shootout has 116 teams will battle it out on the soccer field Saturday to make it to the finals on Sunday.

The Nevada Artists Association, a local non-profit art association supporting the arts, announces Addison Buckner as the winner of the inaugural 2026 Nevada Artists Association Art Scholarship. Addison is a graduating senior at Douglas High School. This scholarship is awarded to a local student who is pursuing professional instruction in art at the post-secondary level and is open to area high school seniors.

Carson City Arrest Log includes a speeding incident leading to a tasing, multiple domestic batteries and more

Jacob Matthew Olivo-Wilson, 23, of Gardnerville, was arrested May 13 at 4:42 p.m. in the 500 block of Jeanell Drive on a felony arrest warrant for violation of a condition of parole, as well as a misdemeanor outside-agency warrant for contempt of court. Deputies originally responded to the address for a report of two subjects who had just been locked out and were trying to get back inside an apartment.

Additionally, several Visual Arts students were recognized for earning a Fine Arts endorsement and seal for their diplomas and golden cords for graduation. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Office of Traffic Safety's "Joining Forces" program and regional law enforcement agencies, is participating in the “Click It or Ticket” high-visibility seat belt enforcement campaign. One of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to buckle up. Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Being buckled up during a crash helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle; the seat belt slows you down and spreads crash forces over the strongest parts of your body.

Reader reports: Trash fire at Treadway Park

Carson Now Reader Lisa Shadden provided the following info and photos regarding an early morning fire Thursday: At about 06:40am on Thursday May 14, 2026, CCFD Engine 51 and crew responded to a trash fire in the parking lot adjacent to Treadway Park in Carson City.   A Waste Management vehicle had apparently offloaded a large mound of burning debris onto the asphalt.

Kids bring the green to downtown Carson City with annual Green Our Planet farmers market

Today at the Nevada State Legislature grounds, students from 14 local schools transformed into seasoned entrepreneurs, or "Farmpreneurs," for the annual Giant Student Farmers Market. Hosted by the nonprofit organization Green Our Planet, the May 14 event allowed students to sell plants and produce they cultivated themselves directly to the public. The market is now in its fourth year in Carson City and is the culmination of months of experiential learning in outdoor school gardens and indoor hydroponics laboratories.
