OK, something I haven’t really seen mentioned about the Geno Auriemma situation from last night. It doesn’t really matter what he was mad about. What matters is that he was treating Dawn Staley not as a peer, but as someone he could berate with no fear of repercussions.

I am vehemently pro-labor in all circumstances and think the proper sharing of revenue is something like “90 percent to the players,” but honestly this seems like a pretty decent deal at this point.

Player Compensation and Revenue Sharing: • Establishes the first comprehensive revenuc-sharing model in women's professional sports history, featuring unlimited upside for players as the league continues to grow. • Creates a revenue-based salary cap directly tied to league and team revenue growth. • The team salary cap will be set at S7.0 million in 2026 and is projected to be over S11 million by 2032. • The new system results in significant player salary increases, including: • Maximum: S1.4 million in 2026, a projected $2.4 million by 2032 • Average: $583,000 in 2026, a projected to be over S1 million by 2032 • Minimum: $270,000 to $300,000 in 2026 (based on years of service), $340,000 to $380,000 by 2032. • Rookie scale salaries will also increase significantly, and all existing rookie deals (38 players) will be adjusted to align with the new salary scale. Player Benefits and League Standards: • League-provided housing will be available for all players in 2026, 2027, and 2028, and for players making S500,000 or less in 2029 and 2030. You know, part of me wants to just say “OK, do your worst, show these people what they voted for.” Another part of me keeps thinking about how many conversations I’ve had in my career with experts that have included some variation of “regulations are written in blood.”

I don’t know who’s going to win the election, and neither does anybody else. But what I do know is that one campaign is acting like it has a narrow lead, while the other is acting like the results don’t matter because it has the courts in its pocket. I sure hope that latter campaign is wrong.
