The people we're dealing with right now don't actually want us gone completely. You can't be at the top of a pyramid unless there are people below you. What they want is to reestablish structures that keep us controlled. They want to overtly give themselves all of the advantages.
In my world, “the talk” is what Black parents have w/our kids, about how to survive an encounter w/police who see them as a threat because of our skin color. Latino families have their talk, w/kids even younger, about ICE who see them as criminals: “If we disappear…” Different fear. Same America.

You do not have to consume every single tiny piece of bad news in order to be a good person. It’s ok to miss things. Traumatizing yourself isn’t the same as activism. Bearing witness to the point that you’re paralyzed with fear and horror and fury isn’t going to help us get through this.

Blogged: the paradox of being a decent person I feel that indecent people are growing in number, yet I don’t know what we can do about that without also descending into the realm of indecency. This creates a paradox if you care about being (or being perceived as) a decent person.
